311 released their first full-length album, “Music,” in 1993, following their independently released EP “Unity” in 1991. The band’s journey from local favorites to international rock icons was marked by the release of their first single “Do You Right” from their debut album, which began to garner them wider attention. To date, 311 has released thirteen studio albums, two live albums, four compilation albums, and four EPs. Their impressive discography showcases a band unafraid to evolve and experiment while staying true to the core elements that define their sound.
The band’s achievements in the music business are highlighted by their consistent presence on the Billboard charts, gold and platinum certifications for their albums, and a dedicated following that has grown with them over the years. Notably, their self-titled album, also known as “The Blue Album,” released in 1995, was a pivotal moment in their career, featuring some of their most popular singles and achieving triple platinum status.

Nick Hexum
Nick Hexum is the founding member, lead vocalist, and guitarist for 311, having been with the band since its inception in 1988. Hexum’s distinctive voice and rhythm guitar work have been integral to the band’s sound across their entire discography, starting from their debut album “Music” in 1993 to their latest releases. Beyond his contributions to 311, Hexum has explored other musical ventures, including a solo project that showcases a more laid-back, melodic side of his musical talents.
SA Martinez
SA Martinez joined 311 in 1992, adding a dynamic layer to the band’s sound with his vocals and turntable skills. Known for his rap-style delivery and ability to harmonize with Hexum, Martinez’s presence solidified the band’s signature fusion of rock, rap, and reggae. He has featured on all of 311’s major releases since his joining, contributing to the band’s evolving sound. Martinez has also worked on side projects, exploring different musical styles and collaborations outside of 311.
Chad Sexton
Chad Sexton, the drummer and one of the founding members of 311, has been with the band since the beginning. Sexton’s complex rhythms and percussive innovations are a cornerstone of 311’s sound, contributing to their energetic and dynamic live performances. He has played on all of the band’s albums, showcasing his versatile drumming style that draws from rock, funk, and jazz influences. Outside of 311, Sexton has been involved in music production and has contributed to various musical projects.
Tim Mahoney
Tim Mahoney became 311’s lead guitarist in 1991, replacing the original guitarist Jim Watson. Mahoney’s guitar work is characterized by its melodic riffs and solos, which have become a hallmark of 311’s music. His contributions can be heard throughout the band’s discography, from early albums like “Grassroots” to their more recent work. P-Nut
Aaron “P-Nut” Wills is the bassist and another founding member of 311, known for his funky bass lines and energetic stage presence. P-Nut’s bass playing is a critical element of 311’s rhythm section, providing the groove that underpins the band’s genre-blending style. He has been featured on all of the band’s albums, and his bass solos are often a highlight of 311’s live shows. Jim Watson
Jim Watson was the original guitarist for 311 when the band formed in 1988 but left the band in 1991. During his time with 311, Watson contributed to the band’s early sound and development, playing on their first few recordings, including the “Dammit!” EP. Although his tenure with the band was brief, Watson’s early influence helped lay the foundation for 311’s future direction. After leaving 311, Watson continued to pursue music at a more local level, staying connected to his roots.
