If you grew up in the 1970s like I did, the sounds of the band America played a significant role in your everyday life. Even if you had none of their albums, you heard their music every day on the radio. They had tons of hits. The band was formed in 1970 by Gerry Beckley, Dewey Bunnell, and Dan Peek. Notable hits include “A Horse with No Name,” “Ventura Highway,” and “Sister Golden Hair.” Over their career, they have released more than 20 studio albums, with their self-titled debut album “America” (1971) being a significant success. The band won a Grammy Award for Best New Artist in 1972. While the group’s lineup has changed over the years, Beckley and Bunnell have remained constant members.

He co-wrote some of the band’s early hits, including “Don’t Cross The River.” Peek’s departure was due to his desire for a lifestyle change and to pursue a path in contemporary Christian music. He released several solo albums in the Christian genre, including “All Things Are Possible” (1979).
