The rhythmic pulse of indie pop gained a fresh heartbeat when Echosmith emerged from the musical landscape of Southern California. Founded in February 2006 in Chino, California, the band started under the name “Ready Set Go!” before adopting the name Echosmith upon signing with Warner Records in May 2012. Originally formed as a quartet of siblings, the band has released three studio albums: “Talking Dreams” (2013), “Lonely Generation” (2020), and their self-titled album “Echosmith” (2023). Their breakthrough came with the triple-platinum single “Cool Kids,” which peaked at number 13 on the Billboard Hot 100 and became Warner Records’ fifth-biggest-selling digital song of 2014 with 1.3 million downloads sold. The band has evolved from a quartet to a trio following the departure of their eldest sibling Jamie in 2016, with the current lineup consisting of Sydney, Noah, and Graham Sierota.
The musical foundation of Echosmith was established in a household steeped in creativity, with their father Jeffery David, a producer and songwriter, managing the band and helping develop their sound. Their mother, Linda Sierota, served as their tour manager during their early years. The siblings’ musical influences include rock artists such as Coldplay, Echo & the Bunnymen, the Smiths, the Killers, U2, Joy Division, and Fleetwood Mac. The band’s name cleverly combines elements from Echo & the Bunnymen and The Smiths, two of their favorite bands. Throughout their career, Echosmith has toured with notable acts including Owl City, Twenty One Pilots, and Pentatonix, and has made appearances on television shows such as Conan, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, and even The Muppets.
Sydney Grace Ann Sierota Quiseng
Sydney Sierota, now professionally known as Sydney Quiseng after adopting her husband’s last name in August 2024, serves as the lead vocalist and only female member of Echosmith. Born on April 21, 1997, in Los Angeles, California, Sydney began her musical journey at the remarkably young age of two when she first sang in church. By age five, she was already playing in a band with her brothers, which would eventually evolve into Echosmith. In the band, Sydney contributes as lead vocalist while also playing rhythm guitar, piano, keyboards, and occasionally tambourine.
Sydney’s powerful vocals and stage presence have been central to Echosmith’s identity since the band’s formation in 2006. She co-wrote the band’s breakthrough hit “Cool Kids” and has been integral to their success across all three studio albums. In 2014, Sydney was named one of MTV’s Artists to Watch, further cementing her status in the music industry. Beyond her musical talents, Sydney expanded her creative endeavors in 2016 by collaborating with Hollister Co. on a partywear fashion collection, which included dresses, tops, and bottoms inspired and created by her. That same year, she also collaborated with The Goo Goo Dolls on their song “Flood” for their album “Boxes.”
Sydney married Cameron Quiseng, a bassist from the pop-dance group Allstar Weekend, in March 2019 after getting engaged in Kyoto, Japan in May 2018. The couple had been dating since 2013. In August 2024, Sydney officially changed her professional name to Sydney Quiseng and began a solo career while still remaining active with Echosmith. Her debut solo single “Wonder” was released on September 13, 2024, followed by her second single “Guilty” on October 25, 2024. Her solo work explores country and Americana sounds, a departure from Echosmith’s indie pop style. Sydney is currently working on her debut solo album, expected to be released in 2025, while continuing her work with Echosmith.
Jamie Jeffery David Harry Sierota
Jamie Sierota, born April 8, 1993, in Los Angeles, California, was the founding guitarist and co-lead vocalist of Echosmith from the band’s formation in 2006 until his departure in 2016. As the oldest of the Sierota siblings, Jamie played a significant role in shaping the band’s early sound through his guitar work and vocal contributions. During his decade with Echosmith, Jamie contributed to the band’s debut album “Talking Dreams” (2013), which included their breakthrough hit “Cool Kids” and other singles like “Bright” and “Let’s Love.”
In August 2015, Jamie took a break from touring with the band to prepare for fatherhood, with session musician Josh Murty filling in on guitar for the band’s tour dates. On November 14, 2016, Echosmith officially announced that Jamie would be leaving the band permanently to focus on his family. Jamie and his wife Anastasia welcomed their son, Django Vista Sierota, on December 15, 2015, which ultimately led to his decision to step away from the demanding schedule of being in a touring band.
After leaving Echosmith, Jamie transitioned to working behind the scenes as a songwriter and producer. He has continued to collaborate with his siblings on occasion, including co-producing Echosmith songs like “Hang Around” and “Gelato” for their 2023 self-titled album. In recent years, Jamie has pursued his own musical project under the name Meija. His experience with overnight success in Echosmith as a teenager informed his approach to his solo career, as he has mentioned in interviews that he got “super burnt out” during the height of Echosmith’s fame. Jamie’s work in film and television includes credits for soundtracks in productions like “Endless Love” (2014), “One Of Us Is Lying” (2021), and “iZombie” (2015).
Noah Jeffery David Joseph Sierota
Noah Sierota, born January 1, 1996, has been the bassist and backup vocalist for Echosmith since the band’s inception in 2006. Within the band, Noah’s contributions extend beyond bass playing to include synthesizer work, programming, and occasional lead vocals, showcasing his versatility as a musician. His musical philosophy emphasizes bass playing that “elevates a song” rather than distracting from it, with a focus on “subtle complexities” that enhance the overall composition.
As Echosmith evolved following Jamie’s departure in 2016, Noah took on a more prominent role in the band’s production and songwriting process. For their second album “Lonely Generation” (2020) and third self-titled album “Echosmith” (2023), Noah stepped up as a producer, helping to shape the band’s sound as they continued as a trio. His home studio has become an important creative space for the band, where much of their recent music has been recorded. Noah has described their songwriting process as beginning with “an open conversation” between the siblings, highlighting the collaborative nature of their creative approach.
Beyond his work with Echosmith, Noah has developed his skills as a music producer and creative director. He played a significant role in crafting the sound of recent singles like “Hang Around,” “Gelato,” “Hindsight,” and “Sour” from their 2023 album. Noah has mentioned in interviews that maintaining authenticity is important to him as an artist, saying he doesn’t “want to be a band that just makes music that sounds like my first record.” Like his siblings, Noah has appeared in various media, including soundtracks for films like “Endless Love” (2014) and television appearances on shows like “The Muppets.”
Graham Jeffery David Sierota
Graham Sierota, born February 5, 1999, is the youngest member of Echosmith and has served as the band’s drummer and percussionist since its formation in 2006. Despite being diagnosed with autism as a child, Graham has flourished as a musician, becoming an essential part of Echosmith’s rhythmic foundation. His drumming skills have been a constant through all of the band’s releases, from their debut album “Talking Dreams” (2013) through “Lonely Generation” (2020) and their self-titled album “Echosmith” (2023).
As the youngest Sierota sibling, Graham was only seven years old when the band first formed, and he has literally grown up in the spotlight as Echosmith gained popularity. He performed on the Vans Warped Tour in both 2013 and 2014, toured with Twenty One Pilots in 2015, and has appeared on numerous television shows with the band. Graham has been part of all Echosmith’s major performances and studio recordings, providing the rhythmic backbone for hits like “Cool Kids,” “Bright,” and more recent singles like “Hang Around” and “Gelato.”
While Graham currently resides in Idaho, he continues to be an active member of Echosmith, traveling to California to work with his siblings on new music. Unlike his siblings who have pursued various side projects, Graham has remained focused primarily on his role within Echosmith. His percussion work continues to be an essential element of the band’s sound as they evolve and create new music. Though more reserved in the public eye compared to Sydney and Noah, Graham’s steady presence has been crucial to maintaining Echosmith’s distinctive sound through their various transformations as a band.
