Royal Blood, the eponymous debut album from the British rock duo, was a monumental release that quickly elevated them to international fame. Known for their raw energy and minimalistic yet powerful sound, the album features Mike Kerr on lead vocals and bass guitar, with Ben Thatcher on drums. The album was a commercial success, reaching number one on the UK Albums Chart. It was praised for its innovative approach to rock music, utilizing a bass guitar and a drum set to create a full and heavy sound that defied traditional rock instrumentation.

The album was produced by Tom Dalgety, known for his work with Pixies and Ghost. It was recorded at Rockfield Studios in Monmouthshire, Wales, and at the Royal Blood studio in Brighton, England, between late 2013 and early 2014.

How Did We Get So Dark?

Following the success of their debut, Royal Blood returned with their second studio album, How Did We Get So Dark?. The album continued the band’s signature sound of heavy, riff-based rock music. Mike Kerr and Ben Thatcher once again combined their talents, with Kerr’s unique bass playing and Thatcher’s powerful drumming creating a sound that was both massive and intricate.

Produced by Jolyon Thomas, alongside Tom Dalgety, and recorded at ICP Studios in Brussels and Assault & Battery Studios in London, the album was created over several months in late 2016 and early 2017. It was another commercial success, debuting at number one on the UK Albums Chart and receiving positive reviews for its consistency and energy.

Typhoons

Released April 30, 2021

With their third studio album, Typhoons, Royal Blood ventured into new sonic territories, incorporating elements of dance-rock and disco into their heavy rock sound. The album showcased an evolution in the band’s musical style while maintaining the core elements that define their sound. Mike Kerr’s vocals and bass riffs, combined with Ben Thatcher’s dynamic drumming, created a unique blend of genres.

The album was produced by the band along with Paul Epworth and Josh Homme. It was recorded at various studios, including Vale Studios in Worcestershire and Battery Studios in London, during 2019 and 2020. Typhoons was met with critical acclaim for its bold experimentation and was another commercial success, debuting at number one on the UK Albums Chart.
