Wet Leg formed on the Isle of Wight in 2019 after more than a decade of friendship between Rhian Teasdale and Hester Chambers. The two musicians had met while studying at Platform One College of Music and eventually developed a guitar band built around dry humor, jagged riffs, infectious melodies, and lyrics that rarely took themselves too seriously.

The group signed with Domino Recording Company and released its debut single, “Chaise Longue,” on June 15, 2021. The song quickly accumulated millions of streams and video views, establishing Wet Leg before the band had released a full album. “Wet Dream,” “Too Late Now,” and “Oh No” followed as the group built one of the fastest rises in modern British indie rock.

Wet Leg’s self-titled debut album arrived on April 8, 2022, and reached number one on the UK Albums Chart. At the 2023 Grammy Awards, Wet Leg won Best Alternative Music Album, while “Chaise Longue” won Best Alternative Music Performance. The group was also nominated for Best New Artist. Wet Leg then won Best New Artist and Group of the Year at the 2023 Brit Awards.

The band’s touring lineup gradually developed into a permanent five-piece. Guitarist and keyboardist Joshua Mobaraki, bassist Ellis Durand, and drummer Henry Holmes joined Teasdale and Chambers as full contributing members for the second album, moisturizer. Released on July 11, 2025, the album became Wet Leg’s second consecutive number-one album in the United Kingdom.

Wet Leg also won the 2024 Grammy Award for Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical, for its remix of Depeche Mode’s “Wagging Tongue.” At the 2026 Grammy Awards, moisturizer was nominated for Best Alternative Music Album, “mangetout” received a nomination for Best Alternative Music Performance, and the album’s artwork was nominated for Best Album Cover.

Current Members

Rhian Teasdale

Rhian Teasdale co-founded Wet Leg with Hester Chambers and serves as the band’s principal lead vocalist, guitarist, and lyricist. Born in Formby, Merseyside, Teasdale moved to the Isle of Wight as a child and later studied music at Platform One College of Music, where she met Chambers.

Before Wet Leg, Teasdale performed under the name RHAIN, creating piano-based music and becoming connected to the Bristol music scene. That earlier work displayed a more introspective side of her writing, while Wet Leg gave her a setting for sharper humor, louder guitars, and a deliberately less restrained performance style.

Teasdale sang and played rhythm guitar on the band’s self-titled debut, writing lyrics for songs including “Chaise Longue,” “Wet Dream,” “Ur Mum,” “Angelica,” and “Too Late Now.” Her deadpan delivery and willingness to shift suddenly from detached spoken lines into forceful singing became central to the group’s identity.

For moisturizer, Teasdale worked more collaboratively with the full five-piece lineup. The album expanded the band’s sound while giving her space to write more directly about affection, vulnerability, attraction, and the emotional uncertainty of relationships. Her vocals remained the focal point on songs including “Catch These Fists,” “CPR,” “Davina McCall,” “mangetout,” and “pokemon.”

Teasdale has also contributed to Wet Leg’s visual presentation, videos, and album artwork. She was one of the three credited art directors nominated for the 2026 Grammy Award for Best Album Cover for moisturizer.

Hester Chambers

Hester Chambers co-founded Wet Leg with Rhian Teasdale and performs guitar, keyboards, and vocals. Raised on the Isle of Wight, Chambers met Teasdale while they were both studying music at Platform One College of Music. Their friendship continued for years before they began developing Wet Leg.

Chambers’s guitar work supplied much of the melodic counterpoint and angular texture heard on the debut album. She shared songwriting responsibilities with Teasdale and contributed lead vocals to “Convincing,” while also providing harmonies throughout the record.

Chambers played an important role in the band’s early visual identity. She helped create the Wet Leg logo and participated in the direction and development of the videos for “Chaise Longue,” “Wet Dream,” and other early releases.

On moisturizer, Chambers became part of the full-band writing process alongside Teasdale, Joshua Mobaraki, Ellis Durand, and Henry Holmes. Her guitar playing, keyboards, vocals, and songwriting remained essential as the band developed a heavier and more expansive sound.

Outside music, Chambers has worked as a jeweler and designer. That background has complemented her continuing involvement in Wet Leg’s visual presentation and creative direction.

Joshua Mobaraki

Joshua Mobaraki performs guitar, synthesizer, keyboards, and backing vocals with Wet Leg. He joined the live group during its early development and toured extensively throughout the self-titled debut album period.

Mobaraki contributed rhythm guitar to the debut album and also worked on production and engineering for “Angelica.” His additional guitar and keyboard parts helped the original duo reproduce its layered studio arrangements during concerts.

After several years as a touring musician, Mobaraki became a full contributing member for moisturizer. He participated in the collaborative writing sessions and performed guitar, synthesizer, and keyboards across the album.

Mobaraki was also credited as part of Wet Leg’s Grammy-winning remix of Depeche Mode’s “Wagging Tongue.” He remains part of the band’s current recording and touring lineup.

Ellis Durand

Ellis Durand performs bass guitar and backing vocals with Wet Leg. He joined the touring lineup during the period surrounding the release of “Chaise Longue” and became a central part of the band’s live sound throughout the debut album cycle.

Durand’s bass playing provided the foundation beneath Teasdale and Chambers’s interlocking guitar parts as Wet Leg moved from small venues into theaters, festivals, and arena support appearances. His rhythmic approach became increasingly prominent as the live band developed into a unified five-piece.

Durand became a full contributing member for moisturizer. He participated in the writing process and performed bass across the album, helping create the heavier grooves heard on songs including “CPR,” “Catch These Fists,” and “mangetout.”

He was also credited as part of Wet Leg’s Grammy-winning “Wagging Tongue” remix and remains the bassist in the current lineup.

Henry Holmes

Henry Holmes performs drums, percussion, and backing vocals with Wet Leg. He joined the live band before the release of “Chaise Longue” and played throughout the touring cycle surrounding the group’s debut album.

Holmes performed drums on the self-titled album, providing the energetic rhythmic foundation heard beneath its clipped guitar parts and sudden dynamic shifts. His work helped the group translate the economical sound of its early recordings into a powerful live show.

Holmes became a full contributing member during the creation of moisturizer. He took part in the collaborative songwriting process and performed drums and percussion throughout the album.

His broader dynamic range became an important part of the band’s second record, supporting both its heavier songs and its quieter, more atmospheric moments. Holmes remains Wet Leg’s drummer in the current five-member lineup.

Former Members And Early Contributors

Doug Richards

Doug Richards played drums during Wet Leg’s earliest formation period from 2019 to 2020. He was involved with Rhian Teasdale and Hester Chambers while the group was still developing its name, initial songs, and live identity.

Richards left before Wet Leg released “Chaise Longue” and before the band signed with Domino. In 2023, he publicly claimed that he had contributed to the writing of “Oh No” and “Too Late Now.” Those claims were disputed and are not reflected in the official songwriting credits for the debut album.

Richards has also performed with the Isle of Wight band Plastic Mermaids. His place in Wet Leg’s history belongs to the early pre-release period rather than the lineup that recorded and promoted the band’s breakthrough material.

Michael Champion

Michael Champion was an important studio and early live contributor during the development of Wet Leg’s debut album. He played bass across the self-titled record and performed with the group before Ellis Durand became the regular touring bassist.

Champion also helped connect Wet Leg with its management team by sharing the “Chaise Longue” video and early recordings with manager Martin Hall. His bass playing and industry role contributed to the band’s transition from an Isle of Wight project into a nationally promoted recording act.

Although Champion was not part of the five-piece lineup established for moisturizer, his contributions remain part of Wet Leg’s debut-era recording history.
