Turnstile formed in Baltimore, Maryland, in 2010 around vocalist Brendan Yates, guitarists Brady Ebert and Sean Cullen, bassist Franz Lyons, and drummer Daniel Fang. The band emerged from the Baltimore and Washington, D.C., hardcore community with a sound built on physical rhythm, melodic release, and the belief that punk could remain intense without becoming emotionally closed.

The six-song Pressure to Succeed EP appeared in 2011 with “Death Grip,” “The Dream,” “New Rules,” “The Things You Do,” “Heavy Hand,” and its title track. Step 2 Rhythm followed in 2013, widening the rhythmic and melodic range through “Keep It Moving,” “Pushing Me Away,” “Better Way,” and the closing title track.

Nonstop Feeling, released in 2015, became Turnstile’s first full-length album. “Drop,” “Out of Rage,” “Blue by You,” “Can’t Deny It,” “Gravity,” and “Fazed Out” combined hardcore momentum with funk, alternative rock, and psychedelic color. Sean Cullen later left the band, and Pat McCrory joined the recording lineup before the next album.

The four-song Move Thru Me EP arrived in 2016 with “Come Back for More,” “Harder on You,” its title track, and “Fuck Me Blind.” Turnstile then signed with Roadrunner Records and released Time & Space in 2018. Produced by Will Yip, the album included “Real Thing,” “Generator,” “Moon,” “I Don’t Wanna Be Blind,” “High Pressure,” and “Come Back for More/H.O.Y.”

The band’s third studio album, Glow On, appeared in 2021. “Mystery,” “Blackout,” “Holiday,” “New Heart Design,” “Underwater Boi,” “T.L.C. (Turnstile Love Connection),” and the Blood Orange collaborations “Alien Love Call” and “Lonely Dezires” moved Turnstile beyond conventional hardcore boundaries. The four-song Turnstile Love Connection release and Brendan Yates-directed short film introduced part of the album before its full release.

Brady Ebert left the band in 2022. Turnstile collaborated with BADBADNOTGOOD on the 2023 EP New Heart Designs, which reimagined “Mystery,” “Alien Love Call,” and “Underwater Boi.” Guitarist Meg Mills toured with the group before becoming an official member, joining Yates, McCrory, Lyons, and Fang in the current five-piece lineup.

Never Enough, Turnstile’s fourth studio album, was released on June 6, 2025, with a visual album connecting all fourteen songs. Its track sequence moved from the title song through “Sole,” “I Care,” “Dreaming,” “Light Design,” “Dull,” “Sunshower,” “Look Out for Me,” “Ceiling,” “Seein’ Stars,” “Birds,” “Slowdive,” “Time Is Happening,” and “Magic Man.”

At the 2026 Grammy Awards, Never Enough won Best Rock Album and “Birds” won Best Metal Performance. Those victories gave Turnstile its first two Grammy Awards after earlier nominations connected to Glow On and the BADBADNOTGOOD version of “Alien Love Call.”
