The Goo Goo Dolls have given their fans an early Christmas present this year with some new Christmas songs that have never been released before by the band. It’s not a new Christmas album but actually a new version of their Christmas album they released last year entitled It’s Christmas All Over. The new Deluxe Version just released of It’s Christmas All Over contains two new tracks entitled “One Last Song About Christmas” and a famous old school Christmas song “I’ve Got My Love To Keep Me Warm,” which also features the very talented Kudisan Kai on the track. Kudisan Kai teaches music at Bard College in New York.
Old school music fans may be familiar with the song “I’ve Got My Love To Keep Me Warm.” It was a song that stood as a standard in the repertoire of the legendary crooner Dean Martin. The song was actually written in 1937 by famed music composer Irving Berlin. It was on of the most famous recordings ever released by Dean Martin. The member of the Rat Pack released the song in 1959. The song was also covered by Frank Sinatra on his Ring-A-Ding-Ding! album. The Goo Goo Dolls actually pay more tribute to the Frank Sinatra recording as their version is a stunning jazz infused big band sounding recording that is spectacular. You have to hear the Goo Goo Dolls version because its just so much fun.
The other unreleased new song appearing on the deluxe version of the It’s Christmas All Over album is a completely new original song written by John Rzeznik, Jim McGorman and James McGorman entitled “One Last Song About Christmas.” This is a beautiful Christmas ballad that Goo Goo Dolls fans as well as just about anyone else should really appreciate and enjoy.
The recording of the song “One Last Song About Christmas.” also features John Rzeznik on lead vocals and guitar. Additionally it features Robby Takac on bass, Ivan Handwerk on piano and keys, Craig MacIntyre on drums and Jordan Katz on flugelhorn and trumpet. Background Vocals were performed by Genevieve Schatz, Jim McGorman and Samantha Smith.
The deluxe version of the album It’s Christmas All Over released this week on Nov 5th 2021, was originally released as a single CD on October 30 2020. The album combined a mix of traditional Christmas classics both modern and old with a few original Christmas songs written by the Goo Goo Dolls such as “Better Days,” “You Ain’t Getting Nothin'” and “Christmas Don’t Be Late.” The album’s title track was a cover of the great original Tom Petty Christmas song entitled It’s Christmas All Over. A song that was originally released way back in 1992 on the album A Very Special Christmas 2.
Along with the release of the Goo Goo Dolls Deluxe version of It’s Christmas All Over is an opportunity to purchase officially licensed Goo Goo Dolls Merchandise. This is something that we have been seeing more and more from music artists over the past couple of years as music sales have sadly dried up. The band Kiss were the pioneers in selling merchandise starting many years ago, but now it’s become essential for any band to jump on the merch wagon.
Fans can jump over to the Goo Goo Dolls official website where they can purchase items such as a simple 2021 Holiday Ornament for $6.99.
