The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame has announced its 2023 Inductees. Every year this announcement usually brings up a lot of celebration among the fans of those being inducted and of course a great deal of resentment among fans of older bands that have still not yet been recognized by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.  Seven musical acts have been chosen to be inducted in the performers category.

This year’s performers class will include Sheryl Crow who first burst onto the scene in the early to mid ninety’s with her multi-Grammy Award winning album Tuesday Night Music Club. Even though she was a 90s artist, she always had a great deal of seventies soul and classic rock fueling her music. It made sense because she was born in the 60s. Sheryl Crow has continued to release albums of substance and brilliance for over the past 25 years.

Along with Sheryl Crow being inducted, is an actual 70s artist that we all know and love named Kate Bush. The English singer has always been a step ahead of the music scene with her own original sound and breathtaking music. While she has always had an incredible loyal following going back to the 70s, recently she has gained much more recognition among younger music fans because of the placement of one of her songs in the television series Stranger Things.

Modern rock fan favorite Rage Against the Machine has also been chosen to be inducted in the performer’s category. The band released their first album in 1992. The group has only released four studio albums that were issued between the years 1992 and 2000. However, those albums were thought to be groundbreaking records that heavily influenced a new sound that merged the genres of metal, punk, pop and rap fueled by revolutionary political views.

The voters who choose the artists to be inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame have clearly argued the point that the hall is open to all styles of music. Once again, hip hop and country artists have been selected. Hip Hop legend Missy Elliot will be inducted in 2023 as well as soul legends the Spinners, 80s and 90s pop sensation George Michael and the iconic country and western artist Willie Nelson. The 2023 performer category is inducting seven different artists for 2023.

In the Musical Excellence Award category, the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame has announced that music artists Chaka Khan, Al Kooper , and Elton John’s longtime songwriting partner Bernie Taupin will be inducted for 2023. Al Kooper was one of the founding members of the band Blood Sweat & Tears. He has also released ten solo albums and collaborated on hundreds of classic rock albums. He produced the first two Lynyrd Skynyrd albums as well as performed on dozens of well-known records.

The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame will also present artists DJ Kool Herc and Link Wray with the  Musical Influence Award. The Ahmet Ertegun Award will go to Don Cornelius who created the 70s television show Soul Train.

It’s nice to see artists like Al Kooper, Kate Bush, and many of the others on the list recognized for their contributions to rock and roll history. However, there have been many truly great rock and roll artists that continue to be ignored. Bands like Grand Funk Railroad, Emerson Lake & Palmer, Three Dog Night, Foghat, Jethro Tull and so many more need to be recognized. I mean for Pete’s sake, how is Jethro Tull not in the rock and roll hall of fame?  Let them hear you…….
