In December 2024, Sir Paul McCartney brought his ‘Got Back Tour’ to the UK. Having ignited Glastonbury in 2022 with a promise to return, the Beatles icon delivered unforgettable evenings in London and Manchester as part of his tour that had kicked off in 2022. Paul McCartney, who was 81 when the UK dates were announced, was still a powerhouse of musical history, celebrating over six decades of his timeless tracks from his solo work, Wings, and the Beatles in a vibrant celebration woven from the soundtracks of our lives.
When the dates were announced, McCartney expressed his excitement about ending the year back home: “I’m thrilled to wrap up my year and the 2024 tour dates with shows in the UK. There’s a unique thrill to playing at home – it’s going to be a sensational finale to the year. Get ready to party – I’m excited to see everyone.”
Several years earlier, I took my son to see Paul McCartney at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. It was his first rock concert. Imagine seeing one of the legendary Beatles at your first rock concert. The two of us, as well as the other 80 thousand people in the stadium, were blown away at the energy that McCartney displayed on stage. The band sounded so good.
Marking his first London performances since his 2018 shows at The O2 and his return to Manchester since 2011, McCartney’s 2024 tour run concluded with grandeur. After lighting up Manchester’s Co-op Live arena on December 14 and 15, he graced the stage at The O2 on December 18 and 19. The December 19 concert closed his 2024 touring year and included surprise appearances by Ronnie Wood and fellow Beatle Ringo Starr. Those UK shows ended the 2024 run of Got Back, although the tour itself later returned for a new North American leg in 2025.
McCartney’s global reach also continued throughout 2024. The year’s Got Back performances began on October 1 in Montevideo, Uruguay, and expanded across Latin America before moving to Europe in December. The full 2024 run ultimately included 23 shows across 11 countries, with the London finale bringing the year’s touring schedule to a close.
Earlier in 2024, McCartney also reached a new financial milestone when the Sunday Times Rich List named him the UK’s first billionaire musician. The list estimated the combined wealth of McCartney and his wife, Nancy Shevell, at £1 billion. The increase was attributed in part to McCartney’s 2023 Got Back tour, the rising value of his music catalog, renewed Beatles activity, and Beyoncé’s cover of “Blackbird” on her Cowboy Carter album.
