On August 14, 2022, the city of Bethel New York will play host to Kenny Wayne Shepherd’s Inagural Backroads Blues Festival Tour. The Blues Festival tour will make stops in Providence RI on the 13th, Bethel NY on the 14th, Lewiston NY on the 16th, Springfield MA on the 18th, Roanoke VA on the 20th, and Portsmouth VA on the 21st. The Bethel New York Show is being performed on the grounds seated right next to where the legendary Woodstock Festival took place in 1969. The Bethel Woods Center for the Arts is located in Bethel, New York, at the National Register Historic Site of the 1969 Woodstock Festival. On the site is also the Woodstock Museum.
The Backroads Blues Festival Tour tour will feature Christone “Kingfish” Ingram opening the show followed by Kenny Wayne Shepherd and his killer band. After Kenny Wayne Shepherd performs, he will be followed by the legendary Buddy Guy. The Festival presents three successive generations of blues artists All three acts will appear together at the end of the show for what will most truly be a performance not to be missed.
The Inaugural Backroads Blues Festival Tour follows in the traditions of the B.B. King Blues Festivals. Kenny Wayne Shepard had performed in those B.B. King Blues Festivals after first witnessing them as a young fan. Kenny feels that it’s time to fill the void that was created since the last B.B. King Blues Festival.
The Backroads Blues Festival Tour concept is also an extension of the celebration of the blues and its rich valuable history that was the focal point of Kenny Wayne Shepherd’s Grammy Nominated music film 10 Days Out: Blues from the Backroads. It is a film we have watched many times that depicts Kenny Wayne Shepherd meeting and performing with many of the blues legends of the early 20th century. Many of whom are no longer with us. It is truly a remarkable film filled with many life lessons and stunning performances.
I spoke with Kenny Wayne Shepherd about his upcoming Inaugural Backroads Blues Festival Tour, his outstanding film 10 Days Out: Blues from the Backroads. We also mixed it up over the concepts of blues soloing and of course, the history of the blues. He was as genuine as it gets. Thanks Kenny.
