Our top 10 Foals songs ranked list takes a look at a great modern sounding New Wave sort of retro rock and roll band formed in Oxford, England in the mid-2000s. The band Foals are not really well known in the United States, but they are a popular group in the United Kingdom. It’s a shame that they’re not more well-known in the States because this is such a great rock band that is really original sounding crossing the genres of so many different styles of rock music in creating a very unique and original sound. The band has released six studio albums so far since their debut entitled Antidotes was released in 2008. Their most recent album was released in 2019 entitled Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost -Part 2. We hope our top 10 Foals songs ranked list turns you on to some really great music you might not be aware of.

# 10 – Hummer

We open up our Foals song list with the great tune “Hummer.” This is the band’s first single release to break into the UK music charts. It only reached the number 167 spot but still is the band’s first single to get recognition. The song was released in 2007 as a non album single. The vocals on this one remind us a little of Adam and the Ants. The lead vocal on this one was performed by Yannis Philippakis.

# 9 – What Went Down

Continuing with our Foals songs list we move about eight years ahead into the future to the album What Went Down. The album was released in 2015. This is a great hard rocking song full of melody, intensity and pure passion. The song broke into the UK pop charts peaking at 172. The song just gets more intense as it moves along. You need to listen to the whole track to really appreciate how great a song this is. Great guitar work, great vocals, and powerful drumming lead the way on this one.

# 8 – In Degrees

In the number eight spot on a Foals songs list is the track “In Degrees.” This is a more recent song from the band as it was released in 2019 on the album Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost Part – 1. The song starts out with a great keyboard part reminiscent of The Who’s “Eminence Front.” A killer baseline is injected into the tune and just carries it away. These guys are great. The song broke onto the UK Top 100 peaking at number 82. This was also the band’s first song to chart in Mexico reaching the number 36 spot, pretty interesting.

# 7 – Late Night

The Foals song “Late Night,” was released on the album Holy Fire. The album was released in 2013. “Late Night,” was released as the third single from the album. The song made it into the United Kingdom Pop Charts peaking at number 146. This one starts out slow with a Fender Rhodes type of intro but begins to generate feel as the groove picks up and you can feel the excitement breeding as all the instruments begin to creep in. Its very 80s sounding.

# 6 – Cassius

It’s amazing how different this band sounds on so many of their tunes. The song “Cassius,” was released on the album Antidote. It was the second single released from the album. It was also the album’s most successful single and their highest charting single at that time. The song hit number 26 on the United Kingdom pop charts. It was also a top ten hit in Scotland where it peaked at number 6. We love those little guitar licks that this band throws in throughout the song. They are so tasty and also a little mysterious at the same time. And those horns are amazing.

# 5 – Exits

Listen to how this song starts out so slow and then bam! the drums, the bass guitar, and keyboards just hit you in the face, knock you down, lay you out and pick you up again while saying “listen to me man, this is rock and roll, Foals style!” The song “Exits,” was released on the album Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost – Part One. This was the first single released from the album. The song broke into the United Kingdom pop charts reaching all the way up to number 70 making it the highest charting song from the record. Don’t miss the video for this one, it’s extraordinary.

# 4 – Mountain At My Gates

As soon as that guitar begins on this one you know you’re going to love this song. It’s just simply fantastic music. “Mountains At My Gate,” is the only song that broke into the US Billboard Rock and Roll charts in the band’s career. This band is definitely unrecognized and deserves to be heard by everyone. All you need to do is listen to this song and your going to agree with us. “Mountains At My Gate,” was released in 2015 on the album entitled What Went Down. The guitar work is just so phenomenal and at time sounds like the Edge from U2.

# 3 – This Orient

In the number three spot on our Foals songs list we take a listen to the very cool tune entitled “This Orient.” It’s amazing how different this song sounds from the last tune on this list entitled “Mountain At My Gates.” The song “This Orient,” was released in 2010. # 1 – Balloons

In the number one spot on our top 10 Foals songs list is our favorite Foals song of all time entitled “Balloons.” This band has such a late seventies early eighties feel and at  times reminds us a little of the B-52s and a few other of those great New Wave bands that came out of the end of the 1970s. The song “Balloons,” was released in 2007. It was issued as the first single from the album Antidotes. The song reached the number 26 spot on the United Kingdom pop charts.
