Prior to becoming American rapper talent, Megan Thee Stallion, Megan Pete from Houston, Texas, spent her earliest childhood days in a recording studio as opposed to daycare when her mother, Holly Thomas, rapped under the alias of Holly-Wood. This resulted in Megan Pete embarking on a rapping career on her own. Starting in 2013, while attending Prairie View A&M University, Megan Pete used social media to promote uploaded videos of herself s a freestyle rap artist, going with the persona of Megan Thee (pronounced “the”) Stallion. This exposure earned her a solid fan following, whom she credits for her early success. Despite taking some time off college, she returned to her studies, this time at Texas Southern University, until she graduated in December 2021 with a Bachelor of Science in health administration degree.
Starting in 2017, Megan’s prowess as a freestyle rapping artist on the internet soon led to a 2018 contract with 300 Entertainment where she has so far released a studio album, a compilation album, three extended plays (EPs), and three mixtapes. So far, she has thirty-seven singles to her credit as a solo artist and has performed fifteen singles as a featured artist.

#10 – I Did It (featuring DJ Khaled, Post Malone, Lil Baby, and DaBaby)
“I Did It” was a multi-artist collaboration single that appeared on the radio stations on June 1, 2021. This fire-up song of triumph was performed by the team-up of DJ Khaled, Post Malone, Lil Baby, DaBaby, and Megan Thee Stallion and became a number seventeen hit on the US Rolling Stone Hot 100 as well as on the US Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. On the US Billboard Hot 100, I Did It charted at number forty-three and it was a number thirty-three hit on the Billboard Global 200. Among fans of the 1970 song, Layla by Derek and the Dominoes, they will recognize the familiar guitar riffs that have been sampled into this hip-hop hit.
#9 – Don’t Stop (featuring Young Thug)
From the Megan Thee Stallion debut album, Good News, the RIAA gold-certified single, “Don’t Stop,” was performed as a fusion of electronic and industrial music in the form of a hip-hop song. She, along with Young Thug, laid out heavy-hitting rap as a pair of sexually charged-up vocalists. On the US Billboard Rhythmic chart, Don’t Stop charted at number eleven and was a number thirteen hit on the US Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. On the US Billboard, it charted at number thirty and was recognized as a number twenty-eight hit on New Zealand’s music chart.
#8 – Big Ole Freak
“Big Ole Freak” served as Megan Thee Stallion’s first real taste of chart success as a rap artist after it was released on January 22, 2019. It was her first single from her 2018 EP, Tina Snow. On the US Billboard Hot 100, it charted as high as number sixty-five. However, Big Ole Freak performed much better on the US Billboard Rhythmic chart as it peaked at number twenty-one, and it also climbed as high as number twenty-five on the US Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. It also reached platinum certification by the RIAA. The song served as a deliberate club banging, unapologetic recording that was seen as the start of an entirely new jolt of energy into the music genre of hip-hop.
#7 – Girls in the Hood
Released on June 26, 2020, the now RIAA platinum-certified single, “Girls in the Hood”, served as Megan Thee Stallion’s lead single from her debut album, Good News. Using the sample music from Boyz-n-the-Hood by Eazy-E, as well as the 808 drum machine, and electric guitar, this braggy hip-hop song remained true to the rap artist’s hip-hop style. Mirroring the 1987 hip-hop classic with a modernized, feminist spin, served as a rallying song among her fans. The music critics also gave Megan and her single positive reviews with its progressive and punchy lyrics. The US Billboard Hot 100 charted the single at number twenty-eight. On Germany’s Deutsche Black Charts, Girls in the Hood peaked as high as number three and it was a number ten hit on New Zealand’s Recorded Music chart.
#6 – Cry Baby (featuring DaBaby)
When rappers DaBaby and Megan Thee Stallion collaborated together for the single, “Cry Baby,” it was for the third time they’d record together. The song was released on November 20, 2020, as an answer to a dance challenge that was made through the social media platform, TikTok. The video behind the single went viral, and the song itself climbed as high as number thirteen on the US Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop songs chart and as high as number fourteen on the US Billboard Rhythmic chart.
On the US Billboard Hot 100, Cry Baby charted at number twenty-eight. Since its release, the single has also earned a platinum certification from the RIAA. The haunting loop of a baby crying in the background, plus the heavy mix of bass and synthesized instruments, added more depth to an otherwise bouncy, sexually overcharged song.
#5 – Body
Released on November 20, 2020, “Body” was the third single from Megan Thee Stallionn’s debut studio album, Good News. While the world was still in lockdown due to COVID-19, the rap artist was inspired to write an erotic song revolving around her own physical figure. In a blatant exhibition of self-promotion, the signature style of raunchiness that has worked well for the rap artist, served as an inspiration to women to be proud of their figure, no matter shape it happens to be.
Seen as a song as inspiration, the popularity of Body not only saw it become certified platinum by the RIAA but reach the top of the US Billboard Rhythmic chart. It was also a number-four hit on the US Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, and a number twelve hit on the US Billboard Hot 100.
#4 – Beautiful Mistakes (featuring Maroon 5)
Jordi was Maroon 5’s seventh studio album and “Beautiful Mistakes” was the third single released from it on March 3, 2021. Performing with the rock group, Megan Thee Stallion’s melodic verse installment added a rhythmic twist to a mesmerizing mix of guitar riffs, heavy drums, and influential synths. On the US Billboard Adult Top 40 chart, “Beautiful Mistakes,” peaked at number one. It did the same on Canada’s Hot Adult Contemporary chart. On the US Billboard Hot 100, the song climbed up to number thirteen.
Globally, most of the European and Oceania charts charted the song within the top forty of their respective charts. In certifications, “Beautiful Mistakes,” earned platinum with Music Canada, the RIAA, and Italy’s FIMI. Gold certifications were earned from the industry’s belonging to the nations of Australia (ARIA), Denmark (IFPI), France (SNEP), New Zealand (RMNZ), Portugal (AFP), and Switzerland (IFPI).
#3 – Hot Girl Summer (featuring Nicki Minaj and Ty Dolla $ign)
Released on August 9, 2019, “Hot Girl Summer” was a three-way collaboration between Megan Thee Stallion, Nicki Minaj, and Ty Dolla $ign. The single peaked at number eleven on the US Billboard Hot 100 and charted at its highest at number one on the US Billboard Rhythmic chart. Among the nations where the single climbed within the top forty of their charts were Canada, Hungary, New Zealand, and the UK. It also became double-platinum with the RIAA and single platinum with UK’s BPI.
#2 – Savage (featuring Beyonce)
From Megan Thee Stallion’s 2020 EP, Suga, “Savage” went viral as a single after its release among the popular radio stations on April 7, 2020. While the original went viral after a TikTok video share, the remix featuring Beyonce came from Megan’s debut studio album, Good News, which came out on April 29, 2020, and its popularity surpassed the original. It also earned the ladies two Grammy Awards in 2021 for Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song.
Critically acclaimed for nostalgic hip-hop. as well as a favored dance challenge song, Savage topped the US Billboard Rhythmic chart in 2020 and charted as high as number four on the US Billboard Hot 100. Globally, the remixed single was a top forty hit among most of the Asian, European, and Oceania nations. The RIAA certified Savage quadruple platinum while the UK’s BPI recognized the song at single platinum. Aside from topping the charts among a multitude of billboards worldwide, including the US Billboard Hot 100 and the UK Singles Chart, it also won a series of accolades and awards from most of the industry’s leaders such as the American Music Awards, and the BET Awards. In total, so far, WAP has twenty-two wins in various music-related categories. The single also earned a multitude of certifications, including six-time platinum from the RIAA, three-time platinum by ARIA, double platinum by Music Canada, as well as single platinum from BPI and RMNZ. In France, WAP was certified gold.
