Our Top 10 Spoon Songs list looks at the songs of a great rock and roll band formed in the early 90s out of the great City of Austin, Texas. Known originally as an indie rock band, Spoon would soon develop a loyal following of fans that loved the bands raw indie rock sound. The band Spoon would release their first album in 1996 entitled Telefono. At the time the group was signed to Matador records. Over time, Spoon would release nine studio albums throughout their career. The group has also released twenty six singles. Our top 10 Spoon songs list takes a listen to ten of our favorite songs from The great American rock and roll band we all know as Spoon.
# 10 – All the Negatives Have Been Destroyed
We open up our top 10 Spoon songs list with the track “All the Negatives Have Been Destroyed.” Listen to that harsh guitar riff at the start of the song as the drums just kind of slam against the wall in an angry punk vein. There’s a certain guitar riff in the middle part of the song that reminds us of the way famous guitar riff from the Suzanne Fellini song “Love On The Phone.” The song “All the Negatives Have Been Destroyed” was released on the album entitled Telephono. It was the first single released from the album. It was also Spoons first single release of their career. The album was released in 1996.
# 9 – Everything Hits at Once
Continuing with our top 10 Spoon songs list we take a listen to the great song entitled “Everything Hits at Once.” The song starts out with a little bit of Michael Mcdonald What A Fool Believes vibe. Although the band stated that it was Fleetwood Mac that inspired this song. The song “Everything Hits at Once,” was released on the album entitled Girls Can Tell. The album was released in 2001. It was the second single released from the album. The song did not break onto any of the music charts.
# 8 – Rent I Pay
In the number eight spot our top 10 Spoon songs list we present the song entitled “Rent I Pay.” We just love that powerful drum sound at the start of the song. The group breaks into the song sounding like The Rolling Stones. The song was released on the album entitled They Want My Soul. The album was released in 2014. “Rent I Pay, “was the first single released from the album. The song was a hit on the US Billboard Hot Rock & Alternative Songs charts peaking at number forty four.
# 7 – I Turn My Camera On
In the number seven position our top 10 Spoon songs list is the song entitled “I Turn My Camera On” The song was released on the album entitled Gimme Fiction. The album was released in 2001. It was the first single released from the album. The song was a hit on the US Billboard Adult Alternative Airplay charts peaking at number thirty one. The band said that the song “I Turn My Camera On” was inspired by the music of Prince.
# 6 – The Underdog
Landing in the number six spot our top 10 Spoon songs list we present the song “The Underdog.” Boy does this one sound like it was written in the 1970s. It’s got a bit of a Build Me Up Buttercup thing going on in the song. The song was released on the album entitled Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga. The album was released in 2007. You gotta love an album with that title. It was the first single released from the album. The song was a big hit on the US Billboard Adult Alternative Airplay charts peaking at number three. The song “The Underdog,” was featured in multiple motion pictures including Spider-Man: Homecoming, Horrible Bosses and Cloverfield.
# 5 – “Can I Sit Next to You”
At the halfway point on our top 10 Spoon songs list is a tune with a great dance groove called “Can I Sit Next to You.” This one sounds very similar to the groove on the Rolling Stones song “Hot Stuff,” from the Stones 1975 Black and Blue album. And interestingly, the Spoon song was issued on the album entitled Hot Thoughts. The album was released in 2017. It was the first single released from the album. The song was a number one hit for Spoon as it reached all the way to the top spot on the US Billboard Adult Alternative Airplay charts.
# 4 – Inside Out
At the number four spot on our top 10 Spoon songs list we present the very popular Spoon song “Inside Out.” The song was released on the album entitled They Want My Soul. The album was released in 2014. It was the third single released from the album. The song was a hit on the US Billboard Adult Alternative Airplay charts peaking at number fourteen. This is simply a great song with a to die for groove.
# 3 – Hot Thoughts
Well speaking of the Hot Thoughts album, in the number three spot on our top 10 Spoon songs list is the album title track. “Hot Thoughts” The title track was the first single released from the album. The song was a hit on the US Billboard Adult Alternative Airplay charts peaking all the way up to number one. The song also was a hit on the US Billboard Alternative Airplay Charts reaching the number nineteen spot. This is a very original sounding song that helps define the essence of this great band we call Spoon.
# 2 – Got Nuffin
Closing in on the number one spot on our top Spoon 10 songs list we celebrate the song “Got Nuffin” Man does this one have a 1960s feel to it. This is fabulous rock and roll for the 21st century. Its dark, it’s heavy, it’s a little punk, a little psychedelic and a whole lot of fun to listen too. The guitar work is killer. The song was released on the album entitled Transference. The album was released in 2009. It was the first single released from the album. “Got Nuffin” became a number one single for the band.
# 1 – Don’t You Evah
We close out our top 10 songs Spoon list with the song “Don’t You Evah” The song was released on the album entitled Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga. The album was released in 2009. The beginning of the song always reminded me of “Der Kommissar” by Falco. “Don’t You Evah,” was the third single released from the album. The song would become another number one single for Spoon hitting the top spot on the US Billboard Adult Alternative Airplay charts.
