Tevin Jermod Campbell was born on November 12, 1976. He started his career singing gospel music. He auditioned for Bobbi Humphrey in 1988 and was signed to a record deal. He was touted to be the next Michael Jackson. Since he was groomed to be the next Michael Jackson, it made sense that he would work with Quincy Jones. Tevin Campbell recorded “Tomorrow (A Better You, A Better Me)” for Quincy Jones’ album Back on the Block. After he recorded the track, he released his first album.

T.E.V.I.N. was released in 1991. The album peaked at number five on the r&b charts and number 38 on the Billboard 200 charts. He worked with singers Prince, Al B. Sure! and K-Ci and JoJo Hailey from Jodeci on this album. It features the singles “Round and Round,” “Just Ask Me To,” “Tell Me What You Want Me to Do,” “Goodbye,” “Strawberry Letter 23,” “Alone with You,” “Confused” and “One Song.” The album sold over one million copies. It was an impressive debut album. He would go on to achieve even bigger success with his follow up album.

I’m Ready came out in 1993. The album peaked at number three r&b charts and number 18 on the Billboard 200 charts. Tevin Campbell reunited with Quincy Jones and Prince for this project. He also worked with Babyface and Daryl Simmons for the album. This would prove to be a great decision because the album was a huge hit. It features the singles “Can We Talk,” “Shhh,” “I’m Ready,” “Always in My Heart,” “Don’t Say Goodbye Girl” and “Brown Eyed Girl.” The album sold over two million copies.

Tevin Campbell achieved great success on his first two albums so it was natural to assume that he would record another album. The pressure was on to achieve success with his junior album. Back to the World came out in 1996. The album peaked at number 11 on the r&b charts and number 46 on the Billboard 200 charts. He re-teamed with Babyface for the album. He also worked with new producers for the project. He worked with Puff Daddy, Rahsaan Patterson, 112, Chucky Thompson as well as others. He decided to create a new sound that was hip-hop friendly. It didn’t sell as many copies as his previous albums, but it did go gold.

He released his eponymous album in 1999. The album peaked at number 31 on the r&b charts and number 88 on the Billboard 200 charts. He reunited with Daryl Simmons on this album. He also worked with David Foster, Faith Evans, Wyclef Jean as well as others. It features the singles “Another Way,” “For Your Love,” “Losing All Control” and “Everything You Are.”
