Paramore is one of the coolest rock bands of the modern era. When I first heard them, they reminded me of a mix between No Doubt and Shirley Manson’s Garbage, but for an even younger generation, sprinkled with a little Nickelodeon dust on top. Paramore is an American rock band that originated in Franklin, Tennessee, in 2004.

The original lineup grew around lead vocalist Hayley Williams, guitarist Josh Farro, drummer Zac Farro, bassist Jeremy Davis, and rhythm guitarist Jason Bynum. Over the years, Paramore’s music has moved through pop punk, alternative rock, emo, new wave, pop, and other styles while the band’s membership changed repeatedly around Williams.

Paramore has released six studio albums: All We Know Is Falling (2005), Riot! (2007), Brand New Eyes (2009), Paramore (2013), After Laughter (2017), and This Is Why (2023). This Is Why won the Grammy Award for Best Rock Album, while its title track won Best Alternative Music Performance. Hayley Williams and Taylor York had previously won the Grammy Award for Best Rock Song for writing “Ain’t It Fun.”

Since Zac Farro’s return in 2017, Paramore’s official lineup has consisted of Hayley Williams, Taylor York, and Zac Farro. As of 2026, the band is on a break rather than broken up, with Williams pursuing solo work while continuing to identify York and Farro as her Paramore bandmates.

Hayley Williams

Hayley Williams is a founding member and the lead vocalist of Paramore. She has been the central figure in the band since its formation in 2004 and is the only member to appear on every Paramore studio album.

Williams’ voice, stage presence, and songwriting have been fundamental to the band’s identity from All We Know Is Falling through This Is Why. Her writing has developed alongside Paramore’s changing sound, moving from the youthful urgency of the early records toward the more rhythmically adventurous and emotionally complex material heard on After Laughter and This Is Why.

Outside Paramore, Williams launched a solo career with Petals for Armor in 2020, followed by Flowers for Vases / descansos in 2021 and Ego Death at a Bachelorette Party in 2025.

Josh Farro

Josh Farro was a founding member of Paramore and served as the band’s lead guitarist and backing vocalist from 2004 until his departure in 2010. His guitar playing and songwriting were central to Paramore’s first three studio albums: All We Know Is Falling, Riot!, and Brand New Eyes.

Farro co-wrote many of the songs that established Paramore’s early reputation, working closely with Hayley Williams during the band’s rise. His guitar style helped define the driving pop-punk and alternative-rock sound heard on songs such as “Misery Business,” “That’s What You Get,” “Crushcrushcrush,” and “Ignorance.”

Josh Farro left Paramore in December 2010 along with his brother Zac. He subsequently formed Novel American and later released music under the name Farro.

Zac Farro

Zac Farro is a founding member of Paramore and the band’s drummer. He played on the first three studio albums, All We Know Is Falling, Riot!, and Brand New Eyes, before leaving the band with his brother Josh in 2010.

Farro returned to Paramore during the sessions that became After Laughter and was officially back in the lineup by 2017. His return restored one of the band’s founding members and brought a different rhythmic dimension to Paramore’s later music.

Since rejoining, Farro has appeared on After Laughter and This Is Why. Outside Paramore, he has recorded extensively with his project HalfNoise.

Jeremy Davis

Jeremy Davis was Paramore’s original bassist and a founding member of the group. His tenure was interrupted several times during the band’s early years, but he remained an important part of Paramore through the recording and touring eras surrounding the band’s first four studio albums.

Davis briefly left before much of All We Know Is Falling was recorded. He appears on “Here We Go Again,” while Lucio Rubino played bass on most of the remaining tracks. Davis later returned to the group and became part of the lineup associated with Paramore’s rise through Riot!, Brand New Eyes, and the self-titled Paramore.

Davis left Paramore in 2015. His departure left Hayley Williams and Taylor York as the official members until Zac Farro returned.

Taylor York

Taylor York had ties to Paramore long before becoming a full-time member. He had known the Farro brothers before the group formed and contributed to early songwriting, including “Conspiracy” from All We Know Is Falling.

York began touring with Paramore as a guitarist in 2007 and was formally recognized as a full-time member in 2009. He appeared on Brand New Eyes and became increasingly important to the band’s songwriting and production after Josh and Zac Farro left in 2010.

York co-wrote “Ain’t It Fun” with Hayley Williams, earning the pair the Grammy Award for Best Rock Song. His songwriting, guitar work, keyboards, and production have been central to Paramore, After Laughter, and This Is Why. He also worked extensively on Williams’ solo recordings.

Jason Bynum

Jason Bynum was the rhythm guitarist and backing vocalist in Paramore’s original lineup. He was part of the band during the recording of its debut album, All We Know Is Falling, and is credited with rhythm guitar and backing vocals on the record.

Bynum’s tenure lasted from 2004 into 2005, covering the earliest stage of Paramore’s recording career. He left before the band began work on its second studio album.

Hunter Lamb

Hunter Lamb joined Paramore as rhythm guitarist after Jason Bynum’s departure in 2005. He became part of the band’s touring lineup during the period when All We Know Is Falling was building Paramore’s audience.

Lamb left the band in 2007 before the recording of Riot! was completed. Although his time with Paramore was relatively brief and he did not become part of the band’s breakthrough recording lineup, he was an official member during an important period in the group’s early development.

John Hembree

John Hembree briefly played bass for Paramore in 2005 after Jeremy Davis temporarily left the band. His tenure was short and took place during the earliest touring period surrounding All We Know Is Falling.

Davis returned to Paramore after several months, replacing Hembree. Because Hembree’s role was temporary and did not extend to a Paramore studio album, he is sometimes overlooked in abbreviated histories of the band’s lineup.

Justin York

Justin York, Taylor York’s brother, was an important touring musician for Paramore, but he was not an official member of the band. He served as a touring guitarist and backing vocalist from 2010 through 2022 and became a familiar presence in Paramore’s live shows during a period of major lineup change.

Paramore’s Current Lineup

As of 2026, Paramore’s official lineup remains:

Hayley Williams – lead vocals and keyboards

Taylor York – guitar, keyboards, and backing vocals

Zac Farro – drums, percussion, keyboards, and backing vocals

The trio recorded After Laughter and This Is Why together. Paramore is currently on a break, but Hayley Williams has publicly said that the band is not broken up.
