Duran Duran was formed in Birmingham, England, in 1978. Originally part of the New Romantic scene, the band quickly rose to fame with their debut album Duran Duran in 1981. Known for their stylish videos and charismatic performances, they became one of the leading bands during the MTV-driven Second British Invasion of the United States. The band’s lineup has changed over the years, but Duran Duran has consistently produced music that blends rock, synth-pop, dance, and new wave elements. The band is celebrated for hits like “Hungry Like the Wolf,” “Rio,” and “Ordinary World.” Through 2026, Duran Duran has released sixteen studio albums, with Danse Macabre (2023) remaining their most recent full-length studio release.

As of August 31, 2026, Duran Duran’s official lineup consists of Simon Le Bon on lead vocals, Nick Rhodes on keyboards and synthesizers, John Taylor on bass and backing vocals, and Roger Taylor on drums. Longtime guitarist Dom Brown, saxophonist Simon Willescroft, and backing vocalists Anna Ross and Rachael O’Connor continue to augment the band in concert.

Nick Rhodes

Nick Rhodes (Nicholas James Bates) is a founding member of Duran Duran and serves as the band’s keyboardist and synthesizer player. His innovative use of synthesizers and keyboards helped define the band’s signature sound and has been featured on every Duran Duran studio album, from the self-titled debut in 1981 through Danse Macabre in 2023. Rhodes’ contributions extend beyond performance to songwriting, production, art direction, and visual presentation, helping shape the band’s stylish and distinctive identity. Outside Duran Duran, Rhodes has also pursued art, photography, production work, and side projects including Arcadia.

John Taylor

John Taylor is a founding member of Duran Duran. He originally played guitar in the band’s earliest lineup before switching to bass in 1979 as the group’s sound and personnel developed. Known for his melodic and driving bass lines, Taylor’s work became central to the band’s rhythm section on albums such as Rio (1982) and Seven and the Ragged Tiger (1983). He left Duran Duran in 1997 to pursue other projects, including solo work and the supergroup Neurotic Outsiders, then returned in 2001 for the reunion of the classic five-member lineup. Taylor has remained with Duran Duran ever since.

Roger Taylor

Roger Taylor joined Duran Duran in 1979 as the band’s drummer. His powerful, dance-oriented drumming became a defining part of Duran Duran’s most successful early recordings. Taylor stepped away from the group after the band’s mid-1980s period and largely withdrew from the music business for a time. He returned in 2001 for the reunion of the classic lineup and has remained Duran Duran’s drummer ever since, appearing on albums including Astronaut (2004), All You Need Is Now (2010), Future Past (2021), and Danse Macabre (2023).

Simon Le Bon

Simon Le Bon became the lead vocalist for Duran Duran in 1980, completing the band’s most recognized lineup. His distinctive voice and charismatic stage presence quickly became synonymous with the group. Le Bon has contributed lyrics to many of Duran Duran’s best-known songs, including “Save a Prayer” and “A View to a Kill.” He has remained the band’s lead singer through every subsequent lineup and era, helping guide Duran Duran through more than four decades of recording and touring.

Stephen Duffy

Stephen Duffy was one of the original founders of Duran Duran alongside John Taylor and Nick Rhodes. During the band’s earliest period in 1978 and 1979, Duffy served as lead vocalist and lyricist and also played bass before moving to drums after Simon Colley joined. Duffy left the band in 1979, well before Duran Duran signed with EMI and achieved international success. He later enjoyed a solo career, scored a hit with “Kiss Me,” formed The Lilac Time, and worked as a songwriter and producer with artists including Robbie Williams.

Simon Colley

Simon Colley was an early Duran Duran member who played bass and clarinet during the band’s formative period. He joined after the original trio of Nick Rhodes, John Taylor, and Stephen Duffy had begun performing and recording together. His arrival allowed Duffy to move from bass to drums. Colley and Duffy both departed in 1979, before the lineup that would make Duran Duran famous began to take shape.

Andy Wickett

Andy Wickett served as Duran Duran’s lead vocalist after Stephen Duffy’s departure and before Simon Le Bon joined the band. During his 1979 tenure, Wickett helped develop several early songs and co-wrote an early version of “Girls on Film.” His voice can be heard on surviving demos from this formative stage of Duran Duran’s history. Wickett left before the band signed its major record deal and later continued writing, performing, and recording with other projects.

Alan Curtis

Alan Curtis played guitar for Duran Duran during the late 1979 and early 1980 transitional period. He joined a lineup that included Nick Rhodes, John Taylor, Roger Taylor, and vocalist Andy Wickett, and he remained briefly as the band moved into its residency at Birmingham’s Rum Runner nightclub. Curtis left before the arrival of Andy Taylor and Simon Le Bon and later formed the band Dif Juz with his brother.

Jeff Thomas

Jeff Thomas briefly served as a vocalist for Duran Duran around the turn of 1980 after Andy Wickett’s period as frontman. A friend and former bandmate of Roger Taylor, Thomas sang with Duran Duran during the band’s pre-fame Rum Runner period. His tenure was short, and he left before Simon Le Bon joined and the classic lineup was completed.

Andy Taylor

Andy Taylor joined Duran Duran as lead guitarist in 1980, completing the classic five-member lineup with Simon Le Bon, Nick Rhodes, John Taylor, and Roger Taylor. His guitar playing was instrumental in crafting the band’s distinctive early sound on Duran Duran (1981), Rio (1982), and Seven and the Ragged Tiger (1983). Taylor left during the mid-1980s and pursued work with The Power Station, a solo career, and record production. He returned to Duran Duran in 2001 for the reunion of the original five-member hitmaking lineup and appeared on Astronaut (2004) before leaving again in 2006. Taylor later reunited musically with the band as a guest guitarist on several tracks from Danse Macabre (2023).

Warren Cuccurullo

Warren Cuccurullo began working with Duran Duran as a guitarist during the late 1980s and became a full member in 1989. His involvement came at a crucial time as the band moved into new musical territory. Cuccurullo contributed guitar and songwriting to albums including Big Thing (1988), Liberty (1990), Duran Duran (1993), Thank You (1995), Medazzaland (1997), and Pop Trash (2000). His guitar work played an important role in songs such as “Ordinary World” and “Come Undone.” Cuccurullo left when the classic lineup reunited in 2001, but he returned as a guest guitarist on Danse Macabre in 2023.

Sterling Campbell

Sterling Campbell joined Duran Duran’s touring organization during the Big Thing era and became an official member of the band for the 1990–1991 period. His drumming can be heard on material from Liberty and he performed with the band during a period when Roger Taylor was no longer part of the lineup. Campbell later became a highly sought-after drummer and worked extensively with artists including David Bowie and The B-52’s.

Current Touring Members

Dom Brown

Dom Brown first played with Duran Duran in 2004 when he stepped in for an ill Andy Taylor. After Andy Taylor’s final departure, Brown became Duran Duran’s full-time regular touring guitarist in September 2006. Although he is not listed as an official core member, Brown has become an essential part of the band’s live sound and has also contributed extensively to studio recordings and songwriting, including work on All You Need Is Now and Paper Gods. He remains Duran Duran’s touring guitarist in 2026.

Simon Willescroft

Simon Willescroft is Duran Duran’s longtime touring saxophonist. He began touring with the band in 2006 and has continued to augment the group’s live arrangements with saxophone and additional instrumental support. Willescroft remains part of Duran Duran’s 2026 touring lineup.

Anna Ross

Anna Ross is a longtime Duran Duran backing vocalist who has toured and recorded with the band across multiple eras. Her vocals have become a familiar part of the group’s live presentation, complementing Simon Le Bon and helping reproduce Duran Duran’s layered studio harmonies onstage. Ross remains part of the 2026 touring lineup.

Rachael O’Connor

Rachael O’Connor provides backing vocals for Duran Duran and is part of the band’s current touring ensemble. Her vocals work alongside Anna Ross to support the group’s harmonies and expanded live arrangements. O’Connor remains part of the Duran Duran touring lineup in 2026.
