Lauren Daigle hails from Lake Charles, Louisiana, and spent her formative years immersed in the musical culture of Lafayette—a tapestry woven with zydeco, Cajun, and blues influences. Singing in the house known as “the music box,” she pursued voice lessons after falling ill with cytomegalovirus at age 15, a diagnosis that kept her home from school for two years but ultimately sparked a deep commitment to her craft.
During high school and beyond, she balanced academic goals—planning to study child and family development and complete mission work in Brazil—with a growing passion for performance. After an early graduation and a stint at LSU, she sang in college choirs and auditioned for American Idol in both 2010 and 2012, each time reaching later rounds but falling short of finals. These experiences, though challenging, set the stage for her future breakthroughs.
Daigle first entered the broader worship music scene through North Point Community Church in Georgia, appearing on live albums Hear and North Point Beginnings. An invitation to fill in at a Centricity Music showcase led to her signing with the label in 2013. That same year, her holiday single “Light of the World” appeared on the Christmas: Joy to the World compilation—planting early seeds of recognition.
Her debut EP, How Can It Be, dropped in September 2014, and quickly gained traction. In April 2015, the full album of the same name released at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Christian Albums chart, also reaching No. 16 on the all-genre Billboard 200, later earning Platinum certification.
Singles from How Can It Be markedly climbed Christian radio charts: “First,” “Trust in You,” and “O’Lord” all hit No. 1 on Billboard’s Christian Airplay. “Trust in You” held that position for 18 weeks and was 2016’s most-played Christian radio song. The album’s widespread acclaim earned it a Billboard Music Award (Top Christian Album) and a Grammy nomination for Best Contemporary Christian Album. Daigle also swept key categories at the Dove Awards—New Artist, Artist of the Year, Songwriter of the Year—and earned her first K‑Love Award.
In October 2016, she delivered Behold: A Christmas Collection, which peaked at No. 29 on the Billboard 200 and topped the Christian Albums chart. That same year, she shared vocal spotlight on Needtobreathe’s Hard Love soundtrack and joined major tours including Outcry and Winter Jam, plus headlined her own A Night With Lauren Daigle tour, selling it out.
2018 marked the arrival of Daigle’s third studio album, Look Up Child, led by the breakout single “You Say.” The song soared to No. 1 on Hot Christian Songs—eventually breaking chart records with a 132-week reign—and crossed over to mainstream radio, hitting No. 29 on the Billboard Hot 100. The album debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 with 115,000 units—making her the highest-charting Christian woman in over 20 years—and earned two Grammy Awards (Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance/Song for “You Say,” and Best Contemporary Christian Album).
Between 2019 and 2021, Daigle continued to earn accolades. Her single “Rescue” reached No. 1 on the Christian Songs chart and was certified Platinum. She also released “Hold On to Me” in early 2021, which became her fifth No. 1 song on Hot Christian Songs and won Dove Award nominations. Throughout this period, touring and high-profile performances—including Austin City Limits and singing the national anthem at the 2020 College Football Playoff Championship—amplified her presence.
In March 2023, Daigle unveiled “Thank God I Do,” the lead single from her self-titled fourth studio album. It quickly rose to No. 1 on Billboard’s Christian Songs chart, marking yet another record and reinforcing her status as the woman with the most No. 1 Christian singles. The album itself debuted at No. 21 on the Billboard 200 and topped the Christian Albums chart, securing her fourth consecutive Christian chart entry.
Offstage, Daigle is deeply committed to philanthropy. Her involvement with the Price Fund focuses on care for children, the elderly, and others in need globally, and she actively invests time and resources to heal wounds and fight injustices. Her mission statement emphasizes hope and love beyond music, demonstrating a genuine dedication to impact.
Currently, Lauren remains a defining figure in contemporary Christian and crossover pop. Her four studio albums—How Can It Be (2015), Behold (2016), Look Up Child (2018), and Lauren Daigle (2023)—plus numerous award-winning singles, showcase not only her vocal prowess and songwriting depth, but also her powerful resonance with audiences across genres.
Her award tally is substantial: two Grammy Awards, twelve GMA Dove Awards, six Billboard Music Awards, and four American Music Awards. She has achieved four No. 1 singles each on both Christian Airplay and Hot Christian Songs charts, and sold millions of albums, while regularly topping Billboard’s Christian Albums rankings.
Lauren Daigle’s profound popularity stems from heartfelt lyrics that speak to struggles and hope, her signature soulful voice, and a rare authenticity that connects deeply with listeners. Her crossover success—lyme cashing recognition far beyond Christian music—cements her as a uniquely impactful artist.
As she continues releasing music, touring, and advancing charitable efforts, her influence grows. With solid roots, clear purpose, and demonstrated artistic integrity, Daigle remains a compelling force—musically powerful, socially conscious, and indivisibly real.
