BTS, also known as the Bangtan Boys, is a South Korean boy band formed in Seoul in 2010. The group consists of RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook. They were created by Big Hit Entertainment and debuted in 2013 with the single album 2 Cool 4 Skool. The group originally started as a hip hop group but later expanded their musical style to include a wide range of genres.

BTS released their first studio album, Dark & Wild, in 2014, followed by their first Japanese studio album, Wake Up, the same year. In 2015, they released the albums The Most Beautiful Moment in Life, Part 1 and Part 2, as well as the compilation The Most Beautiful Moment in Life: Young Forever in 2016. These releases brought the group significant domestic and international attention.

Their second Korean studio album, Wings, was released in 2016 and became their first album to sell one million copies in South Korea. The following year, they released You Never Walk Alone, a repackage of Wings, and continued to build a global fanbase. BTS broke into the U.S. market with their 2017 EP Love Yourself: Her, which entered the Billboard 200 chart. This was followed by Love Yourself: Tear and Love Yourself: Answer in 2018, both of which achieved significant international chart success.

In 2019, BTS released Map of the Soul: Persona, which topped charts in the U.S., the UK, and Australia. They followed up with Map of the Soul: 7 in 2020, which broke multiple sales records in South Korea and internationally. The group released the English-language single “Dynamite” in 2020, which debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100, making BTS the first all-South Korean act to achieve this feat. In November 2020, they released Be, which also reached number one in several countries.

BTS has also released several Japanese-language albums, including Face Yourself (2018) and Map of the Soul: 7 – The Journey (2020). They have embarked on multiple world tours and held stadium concerts, including the Love Yourself World Tour and Speak Yourself tour.

Their major hit singles include “I Need U,” “Fire,” “Blood Sweat & Tears,” “Spring Day,” “DNA,” “Fake Love,” “Idol,” “Boy With Luv,” “On,” “Dynamite,” “Butter,” and “Permission to Dance.” These songs have topped charts in South Korea and internationally, breaking streaming and sales records.

BTS has received numerous awards and honors throughout their career. They have won multiple Daesang (grand prize) awards at major Korean music award shows, Billboard Music Awards, American Music Awards, MTV Video Music Awards, and have been nominated for Grammy Awards. The group has also received orders of cultural merit from the South Korean government for their contributions to the country’s cultural exports.

Outside of music, BTS is known for their philanthropic activities. They launched the “Love Myself” campaign in partnership with UNICEF to promote self-love and end violence against children and teens. The group and their fans, known as ARMY, have raised millions of dollars for various charitable causes.

BTS members have pursued solo projects as well, with mixtapes, solo albums, and collaborations with other artists. The group announced a temporary focus on solo activities in 2022, with members releasing solo music and pursuing individual endeavors.

Despite the focus on solo projects, BTS continues to release group music, participate in collective activities, and maintain a global fanbase. As of 2023, BTS remains one of the best-selling music artists in the world, having sold over 32 million albums in South Korea alone.

BTS has also contributed to the Hallyu wave, spreading Korean culture and music globally through their widespread influence, media appearances, and international collaborations.

Their discography includes multiple studio albums, extended plays, compilation albums, and soundtrack appearances. BTS’s impact on streaming platforms is substantial, consistently breaking records on platforms like Spotify and YouTube.

BTS continues to be active in the music industry, engaging in musical releases, public appearances, and social initiatives.
