Formed on the Isle of Wight in 2018 after meeting at a festival and solidifying their partnership while riding a Ferris wheel at End of the Road Festival, Wet Leg emerged as an indie rock outfit built on more than a decade of creative collaboration between its founding members. The band signed with Domino Recording Company in June 2021 and released their debut single, “Chaise Longue,” on June 15, 2021, which rapidly accumulated millions of streams and video views across digital platforms. The pairing of angular guitars with sharp, sardonic lyricism generated significant media attention and streaming momentum before the band had even released their full debut recording.

Wet Leg’s self-titled debut album arrived in April 2022. It immediately topped the UK Albums Chart as well as Australia’s ARIA Albums Chart, a remarkable achievement for a band that had existed in its public form for less than a year. The album received nominations at the 65th Annual Grammy Awards in three categories, ultimately winning Best Alternative Music Album and Best Alternative Music Performance for “Chaise Longue.” However, it missed out on the Best New Artist award. That same year, the album was nominated for the Mercury Prize. In 2023, Wet Leg expanded their award recognition by winning Best New Artist and Best British Group at the BRIT Awards, cementing their position within contemporary indie rock.

Following a three-year break from recording, Wet Leg announced their second album, Moisturizer, in April 2025 and released it on July 11 of that year. The album marked a significant shift in the band’s creative process, with the former touring musicians officially becoming full members and songwriting contributors. Moisturizer debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart and received widespread critical acclaim. In early 2024, the band remixed Depeche Mode’s “Wagging Tongue,” which subsequently won the Grammy Award for Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical in 2024, further expanding their awards collection.

Rhian Teasdale

Rhian Louise Teasdale was born in March 1993 in Formby, Merseyside, and relocated to the Isle of Wight at age eight when her family moved there. Her parents both worked in the merchant navy, a background that initially shaped expectations for her career stability before Wet Leg’s commercial breakthrough. She attended Platform One College of Music on the Isle of Wight, where she first met Hester Chambers while both were studying music. Before forming Wet Leg, Teasdale performed under the solo moniker RHAIN, delivering piano-based, introspective compositions that drew on diverse influences, including Björk, Joni Mitchell, Devendra Banhart, and Arcade Fire. She performed the song “Humdrum Drivel” in 2013 as part of this project and maintained ties to the Bristol music scene during her early career development.

Teasdale formally co-founded Wet Leg with Chambers on September 2, 2018, at End of the Road Festival. Notably, she did not play guitar prior to forming the band, instead learning the instrument within the Wet Leg context by writing directly on the guitar rather than learning traditional chord structures. The band released “Chaise Longue” on June 15, 2021, with Teasdale handling lead vocals and rhythm guitar duties. This track rapidly became the band’s breakthrough single, streamed millions of times and viewed millions more on video platforms. Teasdale served as the primary lyricist on the debut album, which Dan Carey primarily produced. Her songwriting was noted for “weapons-grade swearing” and lyrics often addressing romantic disappointments, with tracks including “Wet Dream,” “Piece of Shit,” “Ur Mum,” and “Loving You.”

For the second album, Moisturizer, Teasdale maintained her role as primary vocalist and songwriter while embracing collaborative songwriting with the full band for the first time. The album was written while the five members stayed together in Southwold, Suffolk in early 2024. Ellis Durand co-wrote “Catch These Fists” and “CPR” with Teasdale, both of which were released as singles. On Moisturizer, Teasdale wrote extensively about romantic love, specifically drawing on her relationship with a non-binary partner she met at a music festival in Portugal in 2021. She has stated in interviews that she publicly identified as queer in 2025, attributing this realization to this significant relationship. Before Wet Leg’s success, Teasdale worked as a wardrobe assistant in London for commercial film production and spent time working at an amusement park in a costume she described as “disgusting.”

Hester Chambers

Hester Chambers was born in February 1994 and grew up on the Isle of Wight, where she attended Platform One College of Music and developed her instrumental proficiency on guitar and piano. Outside of music, Chambers established herself as a skilled jeweler and launched a custom jewelry line, Hester Chambers Jewellery, while working in the family jewelry business. She met Rhian Teasdale at music college, and after maintaining a decade-long friendship, the pair formed Wet Leg in 2018. Chambers had been performing for years before the band’s formation, both in local groups and in collaborative projects with Teasdale. She also performed with the Isle of Wight group Plastic Mermaids before focusing exclusively on Wet Leg.

Chambers co-founded Wet Leg in September 2018 and assumed guitar and backing vocal responsibilities from the band’s inception. She performed on the June 2021 release of “Chaise Longue,” demonstrating accomplished guitar work that complemented Teasdale’s rhythm playing. Chambers also contributed to the band’s visual aesthetic, designing its woozy logo and directing the accompanying music videos for early singles “Chaise Longue,” “Wet Dream,” and “Oh No.” The self-titled debut album, released in April 2022, was written collaboratively between Teasdale and Chambers with production by Dan Carey. Chambers took lead vocals on “Convincing,” a looping track from the debut that addressed melancholic emotional states. She also contributed to songwriting on tracks including “Too Late Now” and “Oh No,” which were written during the early stages of the band’s development as they were forming their festival sets.

For Moisturizer, Chambers served as a primary songwriter and performed lead vocals on tracks, including “Don’t Speak,” which she wrote and reflected her long-term relationship with Josh Mobaraki. Chambers remains involved in Wet Leg’s visual presentation, contributing to album artwork and providing creative input on the band’s aesthetic direction. The Moisturizer album cover, nominated for Best Album Cover at the 68th Annual Grammy Awards, featured Chambers and Teasdale in an “Aphex Twin-esque” setting. Outside of her musical work with Wet Leg, Chambers continues her jewelry design practice, maintaining her independent creative pursuits alongside her touring and recording schedule with the band.

Josh Mobaraki

Josh Mobaraki joined Wet Leg as a touring musician shortly after the band’s formation in 2019, contributing rhythm guitar and synthesizer to the band’s live performances. Mobaraki is the boyfriend of co-founder Hester Chambers, and the pair collaborated on the song “Chaise Longue” alongside Teasdale during late-night writing sessions that occurred before the track was intended for recording. The track was written informally without expectation of commercial release, yet it became the band’s breakthrough single following its June 2021 debut. Mobaraki maintained his role as a touring musician throughout the band’s 2022 debut album cycle, performing at major festival appearances and supporting high-profile artists including Harry Styles and Foo Fighters.

Mobaraki served as a touring musician on Wet Leg’s self-titled debut album from 2020 through 2023, supporting the band during their rapid ascent to international prominence. He contributed synthesizer to the song “Angelica,” released as a single in February 2022, and provided instrumental backing on all live performances during the extensive touring cycle that followed the album’s April 2022 release. Throughout the band’s performances at major festivals including Glastonbury and Coachella, Mobaraki solidified his integral role within the band’s sonic presentation. When the band performed at Coachella in April 2023, a notable moment occurred during the performance of “Ur Mum” when Dave Grohl joined the band on stage.

In April 2025, Mobaraki was officially inducted as a full member of Wet Leg alongside Ellis Durand and Henry Holmes, after four years of touring as a supporting musician. For the second album Moisturizer, written and recorded in early 2024 in Southwold, Suffolk, Mobaraki contributed as a full songwriting partner. He received writing credits on multiple tracks from the album and played rhythm guitar, synthesizer, and keyboards across the recording. The album marked the first time all five band members contributed as co-writers, with Mobaraki sharing ownership in the creative vision alongside Teasdale, Chambers, Durand, and Holmes. Ellis Durand specifically noted that Mobaraki did not exert control during the writing and recording process, and that the collaborative environment emphasized mutual support and creative exploration.

Ellis Durand

Ellis Durand joined Wet Leg as a touring bassist in 2021, several months after the band’s formation in 2019 and following the release of their breakthrough single “Chaise Longue.” Durand provided bass and backing vocals throughout the band’s debut album cycle, beginning with performances supporting the album’s April 2022 release. He remained a touring member through 2023, performing at major festival dates and supporting established artists on their tours. Durand’s bass work during this period established the harmonic foundation that allowed Teasdale and Chambers’ guitars and vocals to take center stage in the band’s live performances.

Durand served as a touring musician on Wet Leg’s self-titled debut album from 2021 through 2023, performing at festival appearances including Glastonbury and during the band’s opening performances for Harry Styles on his Love On Tour dates in 2023. His bass lines provided rhythmic and harmonic stability during the extensive touring cycle, as the band built their live reputation as a powerful performance unit. The touring experience with Wet Leg represented a significant phase in Durand’s musical development, establishing him as a key contributor to the band’s evolving sound and stage presence.

In April 2025, Durand was officially inducted as a full member of Wet Leg following four years of touring with the band. For Moisturizer, recorded in autumn 2024 at Salvation Studios in Brighton, Durand contributed as a co-writer and performer. He received writing credits on “Catch These Fists” and “CPR,” both released as singles from the album. On Moisturizer, Durand’s bass lines occupy a more prominent sonic position than on the debut album, with his bass providing harmonic texture and melodic interest on multiple tracks. In interviews discussing the album, Durand stated that he did not experience significant pressure while recording and that he was excited about the collaborative process. The album credits indicate Durand played bass guitar on all tracks and contributed piano on one track, expanding his instrumental contributions beyond his touring role.

Henry Holmes

Henry Holmes joined Wet Leg as a touring drummer in 2020, shortly after the band’s formation and prior to the release of their debut single “Chaise Longue” in June 2021. Holmes provided percussion and drum support throughout the band’s live performances beginning in 2020, establishing the rhythmic foundation for the band’s energetic stage presence. He maintained his role as touring drummer through the band’s entire debut album cycle, performing at major festivals and supporting dates with established acts including Harry Styles and Foo Fighters. Holmes’ drumming developed in tandem with the band’s evolution, adapting to the expanding arrangements and song complexities as Wet Leg built their live reputation.

Holmes served as a touring drummer throughout the band’s self-titled debut album era from 2020 through 2023, providing percussion support during all major live performances and festival dates. He contributed to the band’s development as a live unit, delivering the rhythmic intensity that complemented the post-punk influenced guitar work and sardonic vocal delivery. Holmes performed alongside the band at notable venues and festivals, building the touring experience that informed his later contributions as a full member.

In April 2025, Henry Holmes was officially inducted into Wet Leg as a full band member after serving as touring drummer for nearly five years. For Moisturizer, recorded in autumn 2024, Holmes contributed as a co-writer and primary drummer. He played drums and percussion on all tracks from the album and received backing vocal credits on the album’s final track. The recording represented Holmes’ first opportunity to participate in the band’s songwriting process as an equal partner, contributing to the collaborative creative environment established during the band’s writing sessions in Southwold. His drumming on Moisturizer reflects the expanded dynamic range of the album compared to the debut, with his percussion contributing to the album’s overall sonic boldness and intensity.

Doug Richards

Doug Richards co-founded Wet Leg in 2019 alongside Rhian Teasdale and Hester Chambers, serving as the band’s drummer during the band’s earliest period of formation. Richards met Teasdale in 2013 and the pair maintained an on-and-off romantic relationship spanning seven years, which formed the basis for several early Wet Leg compositions. During the initial formation period in 2019, Richards, Teasdale, and Chambers worked together to develop the band’s sound and identity. In July 2023, Richards gave his first public interview, alleging in The Times that he deserved songwriting credit on the debut album tracks “Oh No” and “Too Late Now,” both released in November 2021. He also disputed the officially stated origin of the band name, claiming that he and friends had maintained lists of “stupid band names” for years, with one entry being “Wet Book,” which was allegedly misheard by his brother as “Wet Leg.”

Richards departed from Wet Leg in 2020 following the dissolution of his romantic relationship with Teasdale. In his July 2023 interview, Richards alleged that Teasdale asked him to leave the band in the aftermath of their breakup. He stated that he felt upset by the departure, having had confidence in the band’s potential for success and believing that he had contributed to the band’s formation. Richards also expressed hurt regarding song lyrics he believed were directed at him, specifically citing the line “When I think about what you’ve become / I feel sorry for your mum” from the track “Ur Mum.” Teasdale had previously indicated in an April 2022 interview that she regretted certain lyrics from the debut album, explaining that she was processing a breakup through her songwriting and sometimes employed exaggeration for emotional effect.

After leaving Wet Leg, Richards moved forward with his own musical pursuits, forming a band called Plastic Mermaids on the Isle of Wight, in which he serves as singer, guitarist, and pianist. In his 2023 interview, Richards reflected on watching Wet Leg achieve commercial and critical success after his departure, stating that the experience had been “completely surreal.” He expressed conflicted feelings about the band’s achievements, noting that their debut album reached number one and questioning whether success needed to be quite so absolute. In his 2023 public statements, Richards indicated a desire to get a resolution to the situation. The official recording credits for Wet Leg’s debut album do not include Richards as a songwriter on any tracks. However, he had participated in the band’s formation and early composition process.
