I am a father of two sons. I have never had a daughter, but if I did, I would have named her April. There is just something beautiful about that name. It’s a name of hope, of new beginnings, a fresh start. It’s a name that springs eternal. There have been so many songs written with the word April in the title. Many of them are jazz standards, beautiful ballads, and some rockers. We are going to mix it up on this list. What are your favorite songs woth the word April in it?
# 10 – April
We will start out with a title as simple as it gets. This one was released by one of our favorite rock bands of all time, Deep Purple. The song was released on the band’s third album simply titled Deep Purple. The album was released in 1969. “April” was the closing track on the album, an epic 12-minute powerful rock and roll masterpiece. The vocals don’t start until about 8 minutes in.

# 9 – April Showers – Sugarland
I have always loved this band because of Jennifer Nettles’ mesmerizing vocal presence. She is just sensational.
# 8 – April Fools – Dionne Warwick
Somehow, the music of Burt Bacharach and Hal David always finds its way into these types of list articles. They composed so many classic songs in the 1960s and 70s. Of course, Dionne Warwick’s golden vocals helped transform so many of their compositions into massive hits.
# 7 – I’ll Remember April – Bobby Darin
If anyone embodied the style of cool in the 1960s, it was the late Bobby Darin. His swinging version of this classic stands as one of the best covers of I’ll Remember April ever recorded. Check out Sinatra’s version as well.
# 6 – Pat Metheny – April Joy
In the sixth spot on this list, we add an instrumental by the legendary guitarist Pat Metheny and his spectacular jazz fusion group.
# 5 – April Fool – Patti Smith
At the halfway point, we turn to the irresistible Patti Smith and her instigating track April Fool. This is a latter-day piece by Patti Smith. It was released in 2017 on her album Banga.
# 4 – Sometimes It Snows In April – Prince
This heart-drenching ballad by Prince was released on his 1986 album Parade. The album was connected to his film Under The Cherry Moon, his follow-up film to Purple Rain. It was nowhere near as successful as Purple Rain and pretty much ended Prince’s film career.
# 3 – April In Paris – Frank Sinatra
This just may be the most popular song ever written about the season of April. There are countless recordings of these classic songs. For this list, we went with the Chairman of the board’s version with orchestration by the great Billy May.
# 2 – April Come She Will – Simon & Garfunkel
At less than two minutes long, this beautiful song, written by Paul Simon, stands as one of the most underrated gems of Simon & Garfunkel’s catalog. The song was initially released on the Sounds Of Silence album.
# 1 – Pieces Of April – Three Dog Night
We had no choice but to close this list with the Three Dog Night classic ” Pieces Of April. The late Chuck Negron’s breathtaking vocal performance on this track made it one of the all-time legendary Three Dog Night recordings. The song was released on the band’s Seven Separate Fools album.
