Top 10 Songs From The Enid

Enid Songs

We were tempted to call our Top 10 Songs from The Enid list, the 10 Robert John Godfrey songs list because Robert John Godfrey is the only consistent member of the band over the group’s long history.  Robert John Godfrey actually formed the band The Enid after serving as musical director for Barclay James Harvest from 1968 to 1971. The band was formed in 1973 with the musicians Robert John Godfrey on keyboards, Francis Lickerish on guitars,Nick Magnus on keyboards, Peter Roberts on vocals, Steve Stewart on guitars, bass and David Williams on bass. The band The Enid did not release their first album until 1976 entitled In The Region Of The Summer Stars. Even by the time the band had released their first album, there were many changes in the personal of the band on their first album.

The band followed up their debut album a year later in 1977 with the release of the album entitled Aerie Faerie Nonsense. Robert John Godfrey and his band mates would release one more album before the end of the seventies entitled Touch Me. The group continued to evolve in the 1980’s through more lineup changes. The 1980’s were a productive period for the band as they released the albums Six Pieces (1980), Something Wicked This Way Comes (1983),The Spell (1985), The Seed and the Sower (1986), Salome (1986) and Joined By The Heart (1987).

The Enid continued to release music in the 1990s with the release of Tripping the Light Fantastic in 1994, Sundialer in 1995, and White Goddess in 1997. In 1999, the band disbanded. There were legal issues with record companies and other problems, but in 2010 the band began releasing music once again.

The 2010s saw the release of Journey’s End (2010), Invicta (2012), First Light (2014), The Bridge (2015), Dust (2016) and their latest studio release Resurgency (2017). The Enid  has also released many live albums starting with Live at Hammersmith (Vol. 1) recorded in 1979 and released in 1984, Live at Hammersmith (Vol. 2) (recorded in 1979 and released in 1984, The Stand (live) (1984) The Enid at Hammersmith 17 October 1986 (official bootleg) (1986) The Enid at Hammersmith 30 October 1987 (official bootleg) (1987) Final Noise (1988) Live at Town Hall, Birmingham (2010) Live with The CBSO at Symphony Hall (2012) The Bridge Show – Live at Union Chapel (2015) and Live at the Citadel (with Robert John Godfrey) (2018)
