Brent Faiyaz, whose real name is Christopher Brent Wood, is an American singer, songwriter, and record producer from Columbia, Maryland. He started uploading music online at the age of twelve, first releasing his experimental music on SoundCloud. In 2014, Faiyaz released his debut EP titled Sunset Avenue. He relocated to Charlotte, North Carolina, before moving to Los Angeles, California in pursuit of further opportunities in music.

In 2016, Brent Faiyaz released the single “Invite Me,” which appeared on his debut EP A.M. Paradox released in September 2016. That same year, he formed the group Sonder with producers Dpat and Atu. Sonder’s debut single “Too Fast” was released in 2016, and their debut EP Into followed in January 2017. The EP received critical attention and was named Apple Music’s “Best New Artist” in early 2017.

Brent Faiyaz gained major recognition as the featured vocalist on GoldLink’s single “Crew,” alongside Shy Glizzy, in December 2016. The song reached number forty-five on the US Billboard Hot 100 and was nominated for Best Rap/Sung Performance at the 2018 Grammy Awards. “Crew” was certified 5x platinum by the RIAA. Faiyaz continued working both solo and with Sonder, building his reputation within the R&B and hip hop communities.

His debut studio album, Sonder Son, was released on October 13, 2017. The album included tracks such as “Gang Over Luv” and “First World Problemz / Nobody Carez.” In February 2020, Brent Faiyaz released his second solo EP, Fuck the World, which debuted at number twenty on the US Billboard 200 and spawned singles like “Fuck the World (Summer in London),” “Rehab (Winter in Paris),” and “Clouded.” The EP was certified gold by the RIAA.

Faiyaz continued to release singles and collaborate with other artists, including “Gravity” with DJ Dahi and Tyler, the Creator, which peaked at number seventy on the US Billboard Hot 100 in 2021. In July 2022, he released his second studio album, Wasteland, which debuted at number two on the US Billboard 200. The album featured collaborations with Drake, Tyler, the Creator, Alicia Keys, and the Neptunes, and included singles such as “Gravity,” “Wasting Time” (featuring Drake and the Neptunes), “Price of Fame,” and “Loose Change.” Wasteland was met with commercial success and widespread acclaim.

Throughout his career, Brent Faiyaz has released two studio albums: Sonder Son (2017) and Wasteland (2022); and several EPs, including A.M. Paradox (2016), Into (with Sonder, 2017), and Fuck the World (2020). Notable singles include “Crew” (with GoldLink and Shy Glizzy), “Gravity,” “Dead Man Walking,” “Wasting Time,” and “Jackie Brown.”

Brent Faiyaz has been nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Rap/Sung Performance for his contribution to “Crew.” He has also received honors and nominations from BMI and other music organizations. Outside of music, Faiyaz founded the independent label Lost Kids in 2018, under which he has released his own music and signed other artists.
