Central Cee, whose real name is Oakley Neil H T Caesar-Su, was born on June 4, 1998, in Ladbroke Grove, London, England. Raised in West London, he attended school in the area and grew up exposed to a mix of UK rap, grime, and American hip hop. Central Cee started recording music as a teenager and initially uploaded tracks online, building recognition in the local scene. He began releasing music officially in 2014, but his early tracks remained largely underground.
His first significant break came with the release of singles like “Day in the Life” and “Loading” in 2020. Both tracks gained popularity on streaming platforms and charted in the UK, with “Loading” peaking at number nineteen on the UK Singles Chart. Central Cee’s music style incorporates UK drill and melodic rap, which quickly caught the attention of listeners across the country.
In March 2021, Central Cee released his debut mixtape, Wild West. The project entered the UK Albums Chart at number two and became the highest-selling British debut project of the year. Wild West included hit singles such as “6 for 6,” “Pinging (6 Figures),” and “Commitment Issues,” all of which contributed to his growing profile in the UK rap scene. The mixtape’s success was followed by a headline UK tour, which further boosted his fanbase.
Central Cee followed up with his second mixtape, 23, released in February 2022. The mixtape debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart, marking his first number one project. It featured singles like “Obsessed with You” and “Retail Therapy.” “Obsessed with You” peaked at number four on the UK Singles Chart and became one of his biggest hits. Other successful tracks from 23 include “Khabib” and “Cold Shoulder.” Central Cee was credited with bringing drill music to a broader mainstream audience during this period.
In June 2023, Central Cee and Dave released the collaborative EP Split Decision, which included the single “Sprinter.” “Sprinter” debuted at number one on the UK Singles Chart and broke several streaming records, including being the longest-running number one rap single in UK chart history. The EP also featured the tracks “Trojan Horse,” “Our 25th Birthday,” and “UK Rap.” This collaboration cemented Central Cee’s position among the most successful UK rap artists of his generation.
Central Cee’s discography consists of two mixtapes—Wild West (2021) and 23 (2022)—as well as the collaborative EP Split Decision with Dave (2023). He has released numerous singles, including “Day in the Life,” “Loading,” “Commitment Issues,” “6 for 6,” “Pinging (6 Figures),” “Obsessed with You,” “Retail Therapy,” and “Sprinter,” many of which have charted in the UK and reached platinum and gold certifications.
The artist has received a variety of awards and nominations. He won Best Male Artist and Best New Artist at the 2022 MOBO Awards, and Best Drill Act at the 2021 MOBO Awards. Central Cee was nominated for the 2022 BRIT Awards in the categories of British Male Solo Artist and British Song of the Year for “Obsessed with You.” He has also been recognized by the NME Awards and the Brit Awards, earning nominations and accolades that highlight his influence in the UK music industry.
