My Chemical Romance formed in New Jersey in 2001 and became one of the defining rock bands of the 2000s. The core lineup developed around lead vocalist Gerard Way, guitarist Ray Toro, bassist Mikey Way, and guitarist Frank Iero, with original drummer Matt Pelissier completing the early lineup. The band released I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love in 2002, followed by the breakthrough Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge in 2004 and the landmark The Black Parade in 2006.

My Chemical Romance followed with Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys in 2010 before announcing its breakup in 2013. The band reunited in 2019 with Gerard Way, Ray Toro, Mikey Way, and Frank Iero returning as the official core lineup. Since reuniting, My Chemical Romance has resumed major touring, released the 2022 single “The Foundations of Decay,” and continued performing into 2026, including the 20th-anniversary era of The Black Parade.

Gerard Way

Gerard Way is the lead vocalist and a founding member of My Chemical Romance. He helped form the band in 2001, and his voice, lyrics, and theatrical vision became central to its identity. Way contributed heavily to the songwriting and concepts behind albums including Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge, The Black Parade, and Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys.

Outside My Chemical Romance, Way released the solo album Hesitant Alien in 2014 and continued working in comics and other creative projects. He created The Umbrella Academy, which was later adapted into a television series. Way returned when My Chemical Romance reunited in 2019 and remains the band’s lead vocalist.

Ray Toro

Ray Toro is My Chemical Romance’s lead guitarist and backing vocalist and has been part of the band since its formation. His melodic lead work, harmonized guitar parts, and technical playing became a major element of the band’s sound across every studio album.

Toro also pursued solo work during My Chemical Romance’s breakup, including the 2016 album Remember the Laughter. He rejoined the group for its 2019 reunion and remains part of the current official lineup.

Mikey Way

Mikey Way is the bassist for My Chemical Romance and the younger brother of Gerard Way. He joined the band in its earliest period and became an essential part of the rhythm section on releases including I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love, Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge, The Black Parade, and Danger Days.

Frank Iero

Frank Iero joined My Chemical Romance in 2002 as rhythm guitarist and backing vocalist. His aggressive playing and high-energy stage presence became an important counterpoint to Ray Toro’s lead guitar work. Matt Pelissier

Matt Pelissier was My Chemical Romance’s original drummer and played with the group from 2001 until 2004. He performed on both I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love and Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge, making his drumming an important part of the band’s first two studio albums.

Pelissier left the band in 2004 and was replaced by Bob Bryar. His work remains an essential part of My Chemical Romance’s early sound and the recordings that first established the band.

Bob Bryar

Bob Bryar joined My Chemical Romance in 2004 after the recording of Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge. Although he appeared with the band throughout that album’s touring and promotional era, the first My Chemical Romance studio album on which he performed was The Black Parade in 2006. His powerful drumming became an important element of the band’s live and studio sound during that period.

Bryar remained with My Chemical Romance until 2010. He also performed on the material later released as Conventional Weapons, which had been recorded before his departure. Bryar died in 2024 at the age of 44. His years with My Chemical Romance included one of the band’s most commercially successful and influential eras.

James Dewees

James Dewees first joined My Chemical Romance’s touring lineup as a keyboardist in 2007. He contributed keyboards, synthesizer, percussion, backing vocals, and live sound support during the later years of the band’s original run.

Dewees became an official member in 2012 while My Chemical Romance was working on material intended for another studio album. The band broke up in 2013 before that project was completed. “Fake Your Death,” released in 2014, became the only officially released My Chemical Romance track featuring Dewees as a full member. He did not rejoin the group when it reunited in 2019.

Pete Parada

Pete Parada served as a supporting drummer for My Chemical Romance during part of 2007. He did not become a permanent member and did not record on the band’s studio albums, but he helped support live performances during the Black Parade touring period.

Parada later became widely known for his long tenure with The Offspring and has remained active in other musical projects.

Matt Cortez

Matt Cortez worked with My Chemical Romance as a touring musician, providing guitar and bass support when needed. His role was part of the expanded live setup rather than the band’s permanent studio lineup.

Cortez’s work helped My Chemical Romance maintain its live arrangements during periods when additional instrumental support was required.

Tucker Rule

Tucker Rule, best known as the drummer for Thursday, has served as a touring percussionist with My Chemical Romance. His association with the band dates back to its earlier touring years, and he later returned to the expanded live lineup during the reunion era.

Rule’s percussion work has supplemented the main drum parts during large-scale My Chemical Romance performances, including the band’s later Black Parade anniversary shows.

Todd Price

Todd Price served as a substitute touring guitarist for My Chemical Romance during 2007. He filled in for Frank Iero during live performances and was not a permanent member of the band.

His involvement was limited to the touring lineup and did not include studio recordings with My Chemical Romance.

Michael Pedicone

Michael Pedicone joined My Chemical Romance as a touring drummer in 2010 after Bob Bryar’s departure. He performed with the group during the Danger Days touring period but did not play drums on the Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys studio album.

Pedicone remained with the touring lineup until 2011, when the band dismissed him following an incident during the tour. His tenure was brief and was limited to live performance work.

Jarrod Alexander

Jarrod Alexander became My Chemical Romance’s touring drummer in 2011 following Michael Pedicone’s departure. He remained with the band through the end of its original run in 2013 and returned when My Chemical Romance reunited in 2019.

Alexander has continued as the band’s principal touring drummer during the reunion era. He also performed on “The Foundations of Decay,” released in 2022, giving him a studio credit with the reunited band.

Jamie Muhoberac

Jamie Muhoberac has worked with My Chemical Romance as both a studio musician and touring keyboardist. He contributed keyboards and synthesizer to earlier recordings, including material associated with The Black Parade and Danger Days.

After the band reunited in 2019, Muhoberac joined the touring lineup as keyboardist and synthesizer player. He also contributed to “The Foundations of Decay” and has continued to support the band’s expanded live arrangements.
