Devon Allman, Duane Betts, and Berry Duane Oakley founded The Allman Betts Band in November 2018, bringing together a group rooted in Southern rock tradition. Devon Allman is the son of Gregg Allman, Duane Betts is the son of Dickey Betts, and Berry Duane Oakley is the son of Berry Oakley, all founding members of the Allman Brothers Band.
The original seven-piece lineup also included slide guitarist Johnny Stachela, keyboardist John Ginty, percussionist R. Scott Bryan, and drummer John Lum. The band announced its formation in November 2018 and launched its first world tour in March 2019, fifty years after the Allman Brothers Band held its first jam session in Jacksonville, Florida.
Early in 2019, The Allman Betts Band recorded its debut studio album at Muscle Shoals Sound Studio in Alabama. Produced by Matt Ross-Spang, Down to the River was recorded live to two-inch analog tape and featured guest appearances by keyboardists Peter Levin and Chuck Leavell. Released on June 28, 2019, the nine-song album included “Shinin’,” “All Night,” “Autumn Breeze,” and the title track.
The band spent much of 2019 touring throughout the United States and Europe, building its own audience while acknowledging the musical history that connected several of its members. Concerts combined original material with selected Allman Brothers Band songs, and the group’s extended instrumental passages became an important part of its live identity.
The Allman Betts Band returned to Muscle Shoals Sound Studio for its second album, again working with Ross-Spang and recording primarily on analog tape. Released on August 28, 2020, Bless Your Heart expanded the band’s musical range across thirteen songs, including “Magnolia Road,” “Pale Horse Rider,” “King Crawler,” and “Savannah’s Dream.” The album also featured contributions from Jimmy Hall, Shannon McNally, Art Edmaiston, Susan Marshall, and Reba Russell.
Bless Your Heart drew from blues, soul, country, Americana, and Southern rock while giving the musicians more room to stretch out. “Savannah’s Dream,” written by Duane Betts, became the album’s twelve-minute instrumental centerpiece, while “The Doctor’s Daughter” marked Berry Duane Oakley’s first lead vocal with the band.
After pausing band activity in 2022 so its members could pursue individual projects, The Allman Betts Band returned to the stage in 2023 and resumed touring in 2024. The expanded touring lineup featured Devon Allman and Duane Betts alongside Johnny Stachela, bassist Justin Corgan, keyboardist John Ginty, percussionist and saxophonist David Gomez, and drummers John Lum and Alex Orbison. The band continued performing through its Lucky Sevens Tour, Allman Betts Family Revival concerts, and additional shows into 2026.
The Allman Betts Band’s studio discography consists of Down to the River (2019) and Bless Your Heart (2020). Together, the albums contain twenty-two songs that establish the group’s identity beyond its celebrated family history. The recordings were released through BMG and remain the foundation of the band’s live repertoire.
Although the connection to the Allman Brothers Band is central to the group’s story, The Allman Betts Band has consistently emphasized original songwriting and its own combination of blues, country, soul, Americana, and rock and roll. The songs below collect every track from the band’s two studio albums in alphabetical order.
