The Kid Laroi, whose real name is Charlton Kenneth Jeffrey Howard, is an Australian singer, songwriter, and rapper. He was born and raised in Waterloo, New South Wales, Australia. The Kid Laroi’s early interest in music was heavily influenced by his mother, who worked in the music industry. He began uploading rap and music content to SoundCloud and YouTube as a young teenager.
In 2018, The Kid Laroi gained recognition as a finalist in the Triple J Unearthed High competition. That same year, he released his debut EP, 14 with a Dream. His early music caught the attention of American rapper Juice WRLD, who became his mentor. Laroi supported Juice WRLD on his 2019 Australian tour and signed with Columbia Records, further accelerating his career.
The Kid Laroi released the single “Let Her Go” in December 2019, followed by “Diva” featuring Lil Tecca in January 2020. “Diva” achieved gold certification in Australia and charted internationally. In March 2020, Laroi released the single “Addison Rae,” which also gained popularity on social media. The mixtape produced the singles “So Done,” “Without You,” “Tell Me Why,” “Go” (featuring Juice WRLD), and “Always Do.” “Without You” became a breakthrough single, reaching number one on the ARIA Singles Chart and number eight on the US Billboard Hot 100 after a remix featuring Miley Cyrus.
The deluxe editions of Fck Love*, subtitled Savage and Over You, featured additional tracks and collaborations with artists such as Machine Gun Kelly, Marshmello, Internet Money, and Polo G. The mixtape was certified multi-platinum in Australia, Canada, and the United States. Laroi’s single “Stay” with Justin Bieber, released in July 2021, became his biggest hit to date, topping charts in Australia, the United States, and multiple other countries. “Stay” spent several weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and was certified multi-platinum globally.
In November 2023, The Kid Laroi released his debut studio album, The First Time. The album included singles such as “Love Again,” “Too Much” (with Jungkook and Central Cee), “What Just Happened,” and “Bleed.” The First Time charted in the top ten in Australia and the United States.
