Craig Morgan Songs

Our Top 10 Craig Morgan Songs list presents the best Craig Morgan Songs like “That’s What I Love About Sunday,” and many more. Before embarking on a career as an American country music artist, Craig Morgan Greer was a forward observer for the United States Army. Born in Kingston Springs, Tennessee, on July 17, 1964, he became an emergency medical technician by the time was eighteen years old. This was his field of expertise as he served in the army for over nine years, then in the reserves for over six years. He was a member of the 101st and 82nd Airborne Divisions at the time.

From Military to Music

When he returned to Tennessee after serving in the military, he worked a series of jobs as a means to support his family. Later, he’d find a job in Nashville singing demos for other songwriters and publishing companies. As Craig Morgan, he didn’t officially begin his music career until 2000. After signing up with Atlantic Records, he released his self-titled debut album just before it closed its Nashville division. In 2002, he signed up with Broken Bow Records.

Through that label, he recorded and released three additional studio albums, starting with I Love It in 2003, My Kind of Livin’ in 2005, and Little Bit of Life in 2006. Each album produced hits, paving the way for Morgan to become a successful recording star in the genre of country music. After releasing a greatest hits recording in 2008, Morgan moved on to BNA Records and released his fifth studio album, That’s Why, before the end of the year. Through Black River Entertainment, Morgan produced two more albums, namely 2012’s This Ole Boy and 2016’s A Whole Lot More to Me.

Craig Morgan, along with his music, was recognized by Billboard Magazine as one of the new talents experiencing commercial success as an independently signed country music artist. Up until now, artists signed with bigger labels were receiving the majority of mainstream attention. Morgan’s star quality, as well as his military past, served the musician well as a patriotic, neotraditionalist country star. While with Broken Bow Records, Morgan’s “That’s What I Love About Sunday” became the first number one independently distributed country hit in five years. Despite Morgan’s success as a recording artist that heavily appealed to country music fans, some critics felt he wasn’t realizing his full potential as a recording artist.

Despite certain critical reviews that felt Craig Morgan was too clean for their liking, he impressed Nashville’s John Conlee enough to be invited to join the Grand Ole Opry on September 18, 2008. On October 25, 2008, he was officially indicted. While some critics may not have appreciated Morgan’s brand of country music, it’s really the fans that have the final say. With twenty-six singles making chart appearances as a solo artist, plus three of his singles becoming certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America, the commercial track record speaks for itself.

His Kind of Livin’

Happily married to his wife, Karen, the father of five calls Dickson, Tennessee his home. It was in this community he rescued a pair of young children from a burning house in February 2011 as he volunteered to help put the fire out. Unfortunately, he wasn’t able to save his son, Jerry Greer, when his body was recovered on July 11, 2016, after falling into an inner tube in Tennessee River’s Kentucky Lake.

As a family man with a military background, Craig Morgan has repeatedly demonstrated he’s more than just a patriot. Often, he performs at American military bases located inside the country as well as abroad. In 2006, he was awarded the USO Merit Award for his neverending support of US soldiers and their families. Not only has he performed as an artist but has personally interacted and raised funds in an effort to help military families in need.

As a recording artist, Craig Morgan has recorded and released a total of seven studio albums and two compilation albums. He also has an EP to his credit, as well as seventeen music videos. He’s been a solid fan favorite in the country music genre, especially among the Christian community that can best relate to his gentle and patriotic nature.

Top 10 Craig Morgan Songs

#10 – Something to Write Home About

“Something to Write Home About” was the first of Craig Morgan’s singles to become a charted hit. On the US Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, it peaked as high as number thirty-nine. Granted, it was a modest hit, but this was a song performed by a man who found that special someone to write home about.

It was a heartfelt tune fans could relate to. It also wedged his foot in the door as an artist that had more to him than met the eye. In an industry that’s so competitive with so few artists able to make a commercial breakthrough, the humble yet sincere Craig Morgan managed to do this with flying colors.

“Something to Write Home About” came from his self-titled debut album, which was released in 2000. As if a song that reflected a piece of Morgan’s own life, “Something to Write Home About” served as the first chapter of a recording artist who had just as much heart as he had talent.

# 9 – Wake Up Lovin’ You

“Wake Up Lovin’ You” was a single that was released from Craig Morgan’s second compilation album, The Journey (Livin’ Hits). As a ballad down memory lane, the tale of a man unable to forget a former lover served as a nemesis that wouldn’t allow him to forget his past. On what felt like a rare occasion music critics approved, “Wake Up Lovin’ You” was a song that had Morgan at his finest as a vulnerable vocalist pouring his heart out.

It wasn’t, however, a rare occasion the fans approved. On the US Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, it peaked as high as number twenty. It was a number fourteen hit on the US Billboard Country Airplay chart, and a number forty hit on the Canadian Country Tracks chart.

# 8 – God Must Really Love Me

In 2009, “God Must Really Love Me” became a number twenty-six hit on the US Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. Its music video earned a win as Video of the Year from the Inspirational Country Music Awards.

As perfect material for a country gospel tune, the musical realization God doesn’t turn His back on the people who love Him and make the effort to understand Christianity.

Unfortunately for Craig Morgan, some of the music critics took the lyrics out of context and saw it as a song with mixed messages. However, among the Christians with a better understanding of how God really works, there’s zero room for misinterpretation.

# 7 – This Ain’t Nothin’

Released as a single in 2010, “This Ain’t Nothin'” became a number thirteen hit on the US Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. It also became a number forty-four hit on the Canadian Country Tracks chart. In the song, it started off as a reporter’s inquiry about a tornado that just ripped through and destroyed his home. Instead of dwelling on what just happened, he discussed the people he lost in his life.

To him, they had more value than mere property. As a song placing the value of human life as something irreplaceable, Craig Morgan’s lyrical lesson was well received by his fans as well as the music critics. When it comes down to it, houses can be rebuilt and refurnished. Lives, however, cannot. “This Ain’t Nothin'” also served as a testament to how human resilience can overcome tragedies, knowing life will always go on no matter what it hurls at us.

#6 – Bonfire

Released in 2009 as a single, “Bonfire” became a number four hit on the US Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, as well as peaked as high as number thirty-four on the Canadian Country Tracks chart. In the song, the partiers were describing the arrival of a police officer, causing them to hide their beer from him in fear of being arrested. As it turned out, he wasn’t there to enforce the law.

He was there to join the party. It was as if he wanted to become a member of the “Redneck Yacht Club,” even if the party happened to be on dry land. The joy behind the song was sharing the pride of what has always been one of the highlights of what made America great. It’s not about the beer or the bonfire itself. It’s about hanging out in an environment where there are no social issues of any kind to dampen the mood of simply having a good time.

#5 – Love Remembers

In 2008, “Love Remembers” was a single Craig Morgan released as the first single from his album, That’s Why. As a ballad, he addressed a former lover of details he remembered while they spent time together as a couple. On the radio, the piano intro is often left out which is unfortunate because it beautifully served the purpose this is a sweet song that took a bittersweet trip down memory lane.

Unlike the neotraditional country style Morgan’s best known for, “Love Remember” took a trip down the road as a power ballad instead of his typical country twang. On the US Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, it peaked as high as number nine. In Canada, it was a modest hit at number thirty-two on its Canadian Country Tracks chart. The US Billboard Hot 100 charted “Love Remembers” as high as number seventy-three.

#4 – Almost Home

At first, “Almost Home” had a shaky start after it was released as a single in 2003. On the US Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, it peaked as high as number thirty-three before it fell off the charts. Due to the unexpected increase of airplay time, it jumped back on at number twenty-five within a few weeks.

It later peaked as high as number six on the exact same chart, as well as number fifty-nine on the US Billboard Hot 100. This song also won him a Song of the Year Award from Broadcast Music Incorporated. “Almost Home” was a ballad of an elderly homeless man who shared a dream of activities he performed on his way home.

The song served as a metaphor for how far a person goes with their personal accomplishments but sometimes falls short to reach the desired finish line due to circumstances that seem beyond their control. The beauty behind “Almost Home” was allowing the listener to draw their own conclusion if it really was a metaphor or an actual story about a homeless man.

#3 – International Harvester

In 2007, “International Harvester” was released as the third single from the album, Little Bit of Me. Fueled with banjo and fiddle, this was a song that appealed to farmers as the title of the song is also the name of a brand that makes combines that can be driven on the highway. However, they’re not known for speed so when they’re on the road, they slow down the traffic. Sometimes, impatient drivers fail to understand the situation, which sometimes causes conflict where farmers have to go on the defense as they’re striving to do their jobs to feed the world.

On the US Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, it was a number ten hit. It also appealed to the Canadian fans by peaking as high as number twenty-eight. If there was ever a country song that best described a hardworking farmer’s life, “International Harvester” was it.

#2 – Redneck Yacht Club

On the US Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, “Redneck Yacht Club” became a number two hit after it was released as a single in 2005. It also became certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America, as did the album it came from, My Kind of Livin’. Acknowledging the term “redneck” is meant as a lifestyle, Craig Morgan’s fun-loving approach to a special boating club was performed simply as a tune fans of the lake could appreciate.

In order to be a member of the “Redneck Yacht Club,” all you need is the desire to spend some party time with your friends at the lake throughout the summer. Whether it’s by watercraft or on the deck, the idea was simply to have some good old-fashioned country fun. On the US Billboard Hot 100, “Redneck Yacht Club” peaked at number forty-five, so apparently, some pop music fans understood the message. Canada, a nation known for its special brand of quirky rednecks, loved this song enough to have it peak as high as number nine on its Canadian Country Tracks chart.

#1 – That’s What I Love About Sunday

After “That’s What I Love About Sunday” was released as a single in 2004, it became Craig Morgan’s first number one hit. On the US Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, it stayed on top for four weeks. By year’s end, it was the number one country song on the US Billboard Year-End chart.

On the US Billboard Hot 100, it peaked as high as number fifty-one, as well as charting as high as number five on the Canadian Country Tracks chart. The charm behind Craig Morgan’s music has been about taking the little things in life and make treat them for the big blessings they are. The song was written by a Christian minister and was partly based on his real-life acquaintances.

It was written as an ode to a typical Sunday shared by members of the Christian community who also enjoyed fishing, as well as spending time with family and friends. As a ballad, Craig Morgan turned “That’s What I Love About Sunday” into what fans love about music that has just as much soul put into it as the twang that makes country music so appealing.
