Born in Homer, Alaska in 1974 Jewel found her way to the United States attending a Michigan College studying voice. She would soon begin a career on the West Coast as a nightclub performer where she was eventually signed to Atlantic Records in the early 1990s. Her debut album released in 1995 entitled Pieces of You became a monster hit. Not only was her album a huge success on the music charts and sold very well, Jewel would soon become a performer that would garner a large loyal following of mostly young female teens.

Jewel’s early music was defined by a soft rock sound that was very popular in the early 70s but touched up with a fresh modern 90s sound. In the early 2000s, she dabbled in dance music just like so many other artists did. At the end of the decade she began releasing country records in which she proved to also be successful at.
