10 Best Songs About Snow

Songs About Snow
As I was outside the past three days shoveling snow non-stop, the last thing I probably want to think about is songs about snow. Nonetheless, as someone who’s always trying to come up with ideas for this website, the idea would just not leave me alone. So I put down my gloves for the third time in a row today, and after finally finishing my driveway, I decided to put together a list of 10 songs about snow. There’s a little anger here as I write it because I’m tired, my back hurts, my feet are still frozen, and my fingers are not working so well on the keys. Nonetheless, The Show Must Go On, so here are the first 10 songs I thought of that are somehow connected to all this snow. And now I hear there is more coming on Sunday. Good grief!

# 10 – Let It Snow – Frank Sinatra

This list will include a wide variety of songs about snow, but many of them probably won’t really be about snow, since it’s one of those words that is used as a metaphor very often. But this one my friends this one is really about snow and who better to represent it, then the chairman of the board….Frank!

# 9 – Cold Rain And Snow – Grateful Dead

They’re just maybe no more of a wider difference in music and style between Frank Sinatra and the Grateful Dead, but somehow I believe it’s all connected and that’s what this site has always been about. So yeah, here you go…….

# 8 – Riding The Storm Out

The melody in this one sounds sort of sad, or at least action-packed sad, but if you listen to the lyrics, it’s actually about him and his lady hanging out at home, just waiting for the storm to end. That’s not so bad, unless you don’t like your lady or she don’t like you.

# 7 – Snowbound – Genesis

You know, when you’re out there shoveling snow, and everything’s starting to freeze in your body, this is the type of song that you start thinking about. This one’s about being a permanent Snowman, permanently just watching kids play around you, and you can’t do anything because you’re a Frozen snowman. It’s pretty sad when you think about it, but that’s kind of what you think about sometimes when you’re out there freezing your butt off. Additionally, it’s a really good song.

# 6 – Snowbound – Donald Fagen

Donald Fagen got this one right with his opening lyrics…”Snowbound, let’s sleep in today.” From that point on, the song goes into some different directions, but it keeps coming back to that opening line, which is exactly what most people think when they hear snow is coming.

# 5 – Winter – Tori Amos

Tori starts out singing about snow, and memories, and all that jazz, and it seems very wonderful at first, but then it all pretty much goes to hell. Still, she’s always been one of my favorite artists; she knows how to tell a story, even though it might bring you pretty far down and depressed, which is what sometimes snow does, so this one fits perfectly.

# 4 – Bytor and the Snowdog

I have no idea what this song is about. Some battle between good and evil, and a heroic dog, I think. But it’s a snowdog, so it qualifies. And even more so, Alex Lifeson gave us an interview, so I feel like I should include a Rush song on this list. Hey, that’s the way life works, you know that.

# 3 – Don’t Eat That Yellow Snow – Frank Zappa

Now you know we couldn’t leave this one out. As I was shoveling, I didn’t see any dogs, but I did see this one really fat rabbit staring at me, and he looked like he was in trouble, trying to figure out how he was going to find some food in this mess. I did go in my car and get half of a candy bar that was left frozen and threw it at him. He didn’t take it.

# 2 – Snowblind – Black Sabbath

Can’t you hear Ozzy’s voice…”I feel the snowflakes freezing me.” Now I’m pretty sure that Black Sabbath was just using snow as a metaphor for something else, but still, it does work.

# 1 – Immigrant Song

This is the song that kept going through my head all morning long as I was trying to break through the snow and ice. I’ve never felt snow this heavy before, although I probably have, but that’s how you feel every time you go out there, and it’s really bad. Nonetheless, with every shovel, I kept hearing those words, “We come from the land of the ice and snow.” I’m glad I was not a Viking. I don’t know how they did it.
