Our Top 10 Humble Pie Songs list looks at a British rock band formed in 1969. The band featured a consistent lineup during their first six years of recording and touring. Guitarist Steve Marriott founded the band. Legendary songwriter, singer, and guitarist Peter Frampton served as Humble Pie’s frontman from 1969 to 1971, contributing to the band’s first four albums. Frampton left the band in 1971 and was replaced by Clem Clempson. Rounding out the original band members of Humble Pie were Greg Ridley on bass and Jerry Shirley on drums.

Humble Pie songs defined the spirit of early 1970s rock. Their music drew on the blues but leaned more toward a driving rock sound. Their style fell somewhere in between bands like Mott the Hoople, Savoy Brown, Foghat, and the Rolling Stones. The immense talents of Steve Marriott and Peter Frampton fueled the band Humble Pie.

Humble Pie has released eleven studio albums, most of which were released in the 1970s. Close to a dozen live albums and many compilations have also been released. Steve Marriott passed away in 1991. # 10 – Black Coffee

We start out our Top 10 Humble Pie Songs list with the excellent track “Black Coffee.” The song “Black Coffee” was released on the Eat It album. The album was released in 1973. The song “Black Coffee” was released as a single. The song was also covered by Beth Hart and Joe Bonamassa. This is such a soulful rock and roll song, and Humble Pie tears it up. Ike and Tina Turner wrote the song.

# 9 – Desperation

“Desperation” was the opening song on the band’s debut album, As Safe As It Was Yesterday. John Kay of Steppenwolf wrote the song. The album As Safe As It Was Yesterday was released in 1969. We love that guitar solo that opens up this stunning track.

# 8 – Infatuation

The song “Infatuation” was released on the Humble Pie album On To Victory. The On To Victory album was released in 1980. The lineup on the album was dramatically different from the band’s original lineup. The album featured new members Bobby Tench on guitar and vocals, and Anthony “Sooty” Jones on bass and vocals. The album still featured original members Steve Marriott and Jerry Shirley.

# 7 – Big Black Dog

The great Humble Pie song “Big Black Dog” was a single-only release. The song was issued in 1970. The song Big Black Dog would become Humble Pie’s first single release on their A&M Records label. Peter Frampton wrote the song. The song featured Steve Marriott on guitar and vocals, Peter Frampton on guitar and vocals, Greg Ridley on bass, and Jerry Shirley on drums.

# 6 – Natural Born Bugie

Continuing with our list of top 10 Humble Pie songs, we turn to the band’s first-ever single release, “Natural Born Bugie.” The song was released in 1969. Steve Marriott wrote the song. It was incredibly successful in the United Kingdom, reaching number four on the United Kingdom music charts.

# 5 – Shine On

While most rock fans know the popular Peter Frampton solo version of this song that appeared on Frampton Comes Alive, we prefer the Humble Pie version. The song first appeared on the Humble Pie album entitled Rock On. Peter Frampton also wrote the song. It was released as the band’s fourth single, although it failed to break into any music charts worldwide.

# 4 – Tin Soldier

A great Humble Pie song from later years, this has always been one of our favorite Humble Pie songs. Listen to the incredible guitar work on this song. In the end, that’s what Humble Pie was all about. The excellent smoking guitar work by the masters Peter Frampton and Steve Marriott.

Peter Frampton may have left the band in 1971, but that did not stop the group from releasing their most successful album, Smokin’. The great Humble Pie album stands as one of the best rock albums of the classic rock era. The band sounds like Bad Company on this one—or should we say Bad Company sounded like Humble Pie at times?

We could have included so many great tracks from Smokin’ on this top 10 Humble Pie songs list. We went with two of the most popular. “30 Days in the Hole” and ” Hot ‘N’ Nasty ” are favorites. Now you know you love the cowbell at the beginning of this song. Yeah, this one smokes, baby! That vocal is just so hot.
