Paul McCartney and Wings were formed in 1971, following the dissolution of The Beatles, as Paul McCartney sought a new creative direction after the most iconic band in music history had come to an end. McCartney, still processing the breakup, assembled the group with his wife Linda McCartney on keyboards and vocals, Denny Laine—formerly of the Moody Blues—on guitar and vocals, and drummer Denny Seiwell, who had worked with McCartney on his second solo album Ram. The debut album, Wild Life, was released in December 1971 and received a mixed critical reception.
