Stray Kids is a South Korean boy band based in Seoul, formed by JYP Entertainment through the 2017 reality survival program Stray Kids. The group originally consisted of nine members: Bang Chan, Lee Know, Changbin, Hyunjin, Han, Felix, Seungmin, I.N, and Woojin. After Woojin’s departure in October 2019, Stray Kids has continued as an eight-member group. The members are involved in writing and producing their own music, with Bang Chan, Changbin, and Han forming the group’s in-house production team, 3RACHA.
The group debuted on March 25, 2018, with their extended play I Am Not. This release was quickly followed by two more EPs in 2018: I Am Who and I Am You. Their early work established their sound—a blend of hip-hop, EDM, and powerful lyrics. The 2019 EPs Clé 1: Miroh, Clé 2: Yellow Wood, and Clé: Levanter brought further attention, with “Miroh” earning them their first music show win. Stray Kids released the digital single “Mixtape: Gone Days” in December 2019 and their first Japanese single album, Top, in June 2020.
The group’s first full-length studio album, Go Live, was released in June 2020, reaching number one on the Gaon Album Chart and later being reissued as In Life. “God’s Menu,” the lead single from Go Live, became one of their signature songs. Stray Kids followed with several more EPs, including All In (Japanese, 2020), Noeasy (2021), and Oddinary (2022), with Noeasy certified million by the Korea Music Content Association (KMCA).
Stray Kids released their second studio album, Noeasy, in August 2021, which included the hit single “Thunderous.” This album marked a significant commercial achievement, becoming their first to sell over a million copies. In March 2022, the group released the EP Oddinary, which debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200, making them the third Korean act to top the chart with an EP. Oddinary was supported by the single “Maniac.” Later in 2022, they released the EP Maxident, which also topped the Billboard 200 and was certified triple million by the KMCA.
Their Japanese-language releases include the studio albums The Sound (2023) and singles such as “Top” and “Scars.” The group’s third Korean studio album, 5-Star, was released in June 2023 and achieved commercial success, debuting at number one on the Billboard 200 and Gaon Album Chart. The group’s discography features numerous EPs, studio albums, singles, and compilation albums.
Stray Kids have earned several major awards, including Mnet Asian Music Awards, Seoul Music Awards, Golden Disc Awards, and Bonsang awards. The group has also been recognized internationally, receiving the MTV Europe Music Award for Best Korean Act and the Billboard Music Award for Top K-Pop Album. They have been praised for their self-produced music and distinctive performance style.
Outside of music, Stray Kids have contributed to various soundtracks, partnered with brands such as Ivy Club, Prospecs, and Clio Cosmetics, and participated in charity campaigns. The group has also appeared in several reality and variety shows, including their own YouTube content and V Live series.
Stray Kids continue to tour internationally, performing across Asia, Europe, North America, and Australia. Their fanbase, known as STAY, is recognized for its dedication and support, contributing to the group’s ongoing commercial and critical achievements.
