We don’t usually cover sports here on classicrockhistory.com, but we’ll make an exception in this case. It becomes our business when a radio station that plays classic rock music announces that it will be hosting all future New York Jets football games on the radio. It’s even a bit more interesting for us because we own New York Jets season tickets. This is pretty big news in the radio business. For the past two decades, the home of the New York Jets has been ESPN Radio in New York.
Legendary Ex-New York Jets Sack Exchange defensive lineman Marty Lyons and the wonderful Bob Wischusen have called the games. I was delighted to hear that 104.3 FM intends to keep the fantastic broadcast team of Marty Lyons and Bob Wischusen continuing to broadcast the games. Without those two, It would not feel like a New York Jets football game on the radio. Nothing has been announced yet regarding the pre-game and post-game shows.
As a New Yorker who has been attending New York Jets football home games for decades, I have spent at least two to three hours after every game driving home in the car listening to the post-game show. ESPN Radio has always done a fantastic job at the post-game show that featured another ex-Jet, Greg Buttle, and various other hosts.
