Breaking Benjamin has built an unusually durable catalog from tension: melody against distortion, restraint against eruption, and Benjamin Burnley’s guarded voice against lyrics that often sound painfully exposed. The band’s songs can move from a whispered verse into a wall of guitars without losing the emotional thread that connects them. This A-to-Z guide follows that work through studio albums, EPs, soundtrack recordings, acoustic performances, alternate versions, collaborations, archival releases, and the band’s latest standalone singles.

Breaking Benjamin emerged from Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, around vocalist and guitarist Benjamin Burnley and drummer Jeremy Hummel. The name originated after Burnley damaged a borrowed microphone during an earlier performance and was jokingly thanked for “breaking” it. After briefly performing under another name, Burnley returned to Breaking Benjamin as the group developed its local following.
The early lineup solidified with guitarist Aaron Fink and bassist Mark Klepaski, both formerly of Lifer. A self-titled EP released in 2001 helped the band secure a contract with Hollywood Records, leading to the full-length debut Saturate in 2002. “Polyamorous,” “Skin,” “Medicate,” and “Shallow Bay” introduced the combination of heavy guitars, melodic choruses, and emotionally direct writing that would define the band.
We Are Not Alone expanded Breaking Benjamin’s audience through “So Cold,” “Sooner or Later,” “Rain,” and “Away.” The same period produced “Blow Me Away,” originally recorded for the Halo 2 soundtrack. Phobia followed with “The Diary of Jane,” “Breath,” “Until the End,” and “Dance with the Devil,” establishing the band as one of the most consistent acts on modern rock radio.
Dear Agony continued that run with “I Will Not Bow,” “Give Me a Sign,” “Lights Out,” and the title track. After an extended hiatus and major lineup changes, Breaking Benjamin returned with Dark Before Dawn, which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. The album introduced the lineup featuring Jasen Rauch, Keith Wallen, Aaron Bruch, and Shaun Foist alongside Burnley.
Ember pushed the band toward a heavier sound on “Red Cold River,” “Torn in Two,” “Tourniquet,” and “Psycho.” The 2020 release Aurora revisited earlier songs through acoustic and orchestral arrangements, often pairing Burnley with guest vocalists, while adding the new recording “Far Away.”
The catalog later expanded through the collaboration “Waiting on the Sky to Change,” the standalone single “Awaken,” and “Something Wicked.” Those releases marked the beginning of another phase for Breaking Benjamin while preserving the melodic weight and emotional intensity that have connected the band’s different eras.
Burnley has remained the constant creative center through every lineup change. His songs repeatedly return to isolation, resistance, fear, dependence, survival, and the possibility of recovery, subjects that have helped Breaking Benjamin maintain a close bond with listeners across decades of recordings and touring.
