The Devil Wears Prada formed in 2005 in Dayton, Ohio. Known for their aggressive musical style and thematic lyrics, the band has released nine studio albums, including Dear Love: A Beautiful Discord, Plagues, With Roots Above and Branches Below, Color Decay, and Flowers. They have been a part of the metalcore scene for over two decades, gaining a strong following and participating in numerous tours, including stints on the Vans Warped Tour. The band has seen several lineup changes over the years but has maintained a steady presence in the genre. The current core lineup consists of Mike Hranica, Jeremy DePoyster, Kyle Sipress, Jonathan Gering, and Giuseppe Capolupo.
Mike Hranica
Mike Hranica has been the lead vocalist and one of the founding members of The Devil Wears Prada since 2005. His vocal style and lyrics have significantly shaped the band’s sound and thematic direction. Hranica has performed on all of the band’s releases, contributing heavily to their development and evolution in the metalcore genre. Outside of the band, Mike has pursued a career in writing, publishing several books, and has also been involved in the side project God Alone.
Jeremy DePoyster
Jeremy DePoyster joined The Devil Wears Prada at its inception and serves as the rhythm guitarist and clean vocalist. His contributions are crucial on albums like Plagues and With Roots Above and Branches Below, where his melodic vocals contrast with Hranica’s harsher tones. DePoyster has also played a significant role in songwriting and production aspects of the band’s work, helping to define their sound.
Kyle Sipress
Kyle Sipress joined The Devil Wears Prada as the lead guitarist in 2015 after previously working as the band’s guitar tech. He has since been involved with albums including Transit Blues, The Act, and Color Decay. Sipress brought a new level of technical skill and innovation to the band, contributing fresh ideas that helped shape their later sound.
Jonathan Gering
Jonathan Gering became an official member of The Devil Wears Prada in 2019 after contributing to the band as a session musician beginning in 2012. He handles keyboards, synthesizers, programming, percussion, and backing vocals and has also become an important songwriter and producer for the group. Gering played a major creative role on The Act, Color Decay, and Flowers.
Giuseppe Capolupo
Giuseppe Capolupo became The Devil Wears Prada’s official drummer in 2019 after first recording and performing with the band following Daniel Williams’s departure in 2016. Capolupo played on Transit Blues as a session musician before becoming a full-time member and has continued with the band through The Act, Color Decay, and Flowers. He is also known for his work with bands including Haste the Day and Once Nothing.
Current Touring Member
Ben Havok
Ben Havok has performed as The Devil Wears Prada’s touring bassist during the band’s 2026 live dates. The position became necessary after Mason Nagy’s departure in 2025, while the band’s official core continued as a five-piece without a permanent bassist.
Former Members
Chris Rubey
Chris Rubey was a founding member and the lead guitarist until his departure in 2015. Rubey was pivotal in the band’s formative years, contributing to their first several albums and helping establish their early sound. His guitar work was integral on albums such as Dear Love: A Beautiful Discord and Plagues. After leaving the band, Rubey focused on his family and other personal pursuits.
James Baney
James Baney, the original keyboardist, was with The Devil Wears Prada from 2005 until 2012. His keyboard and synthesizer work added a distinctive layer to the band’s sound, particularly on albums like With Roots Above and Branches Below. After his departure, Baney publicly clarified that leaving the band had not been his decision.
Daniel Williams
Daniel Williams was the drummer for The Devil Wears Prada from the band’s formation until 2016. He played on the band’s releases through Space and contributed significantly to the group’s energetic and dynamic sound. Williams parted ways with the band in 2016. He died on May 22, 2025, in a plane crash in San Diego, California.
Andy Trick
Andy Trick was The Devil Wears Prada’s bassist from the band’s early years through the The Act era. Trick played on the group’s studio albums from Dear Love: A Beautiful Discord through The Act and provided a consistent low-end foundation throughout much of the band’s career. His departure and Mason Nagy’s introduction as his replacement were discussed publicly by the band in 2020.
Mason Nagy
Mason Nagy began working with The Devil Wears Prada in 2018 and later became the band’s bassist, appearing on releases including ZII and Color Decay. Nagy remained with the group until July 2025, when he announced his departure after seven years of involvement with the band.
Former Touring Member
Samuel Penner
Samuel Penner of For Today temporarily filled in on lead guitar during part of The Devil Wears Prada’s 2013 tour when Chris Rubey stayed home to care for his newborn child. Penner’s role was a temporary touring position rather than permanent band membership.
