Dogstar is an American alternative rock band formed in Los Angeles, California, in 1991. Notable for featuring actor Keanu Reeves as the bassist, the band enjoyed moderate success and a dedicated following during the 1990s and early 2000s. Dogstar released two studio albums, Our Little Visionary in 1996 and Happy Ending in 2000, and an EP titled Quattro Formaggi in 1996. The band reunited after a long hiatus and released Somewhere Between the Power Lines and Palm Trees in 2023, followed by All In Now in 2026. Dogstar has performed at major music festivals and enjoyed international tours throughout its career.

Keanu Reeves

Well, I guess he played more than just air guitar, as we watched him play in the Bill and Ted movies. Keanu Reeves, known primarily for his acting career, co-founded Dogstar in the early 1990s. He plays bass guitar and is a backing vocalist for the band. Reeves contributed significantly to the sound and composition of Dogstar’s recordings, including the band’s reunion albums Somewhere Between the Power Lines and Palm Trees and All In Now. His participation brought considerable attention to the band from both fans and the media, although he always aimed to keep the focus on the music rather than his celebrity. Outside of Dogstar, Reeves has had an illustrious film career, starring in blockbuster hits such as the Matrix series and John Wick films.

Robert Mailhouse

Robert Mailhouse is the drummer and a founding member of Dogstar. He met Reeves in a supermarket in Los Angeles and discovered their mutual passion for music, leading to the formation of the band. Mailhouse played on all of Dogstar’s recordings and was essential in the songwriting and creative direction of the group. He remains a member of Dogstar following the band’s reunion and appears on both Somewhere Between the Power Lines and Palm Trees and All In Now. His other career highlights include acting roles on television shows such as Days of Our Lives and various movie projects.

Gregg Miller

Gregg Miller was Dogstar’s original guitarist and lead vocalist and was part of the band’s founding-era lineup with Keanu Reeves and Robert Mailhouse. Miller helped shape Dogstar’s early sound before Bret Domrose joined the group in 1994. During this period, Miller and Domrose shared guitar, vocal, and songwriting responsibilities. Miller left Dogstar in 1995 as the band moved toward the musical direction led by Domrose, who then became the group’s primary lead vocalist and songwriter.

Bret Domrose

Bret Domrose joined Dogstar as a guitarist and backing vocalist in 1994, solidifying the band’s lineup. After Gregg Miller’s departure in 1995, Domrose became the band’s lead vocalist and primary songwriter. His arrival marked a pivotal point in defining the band’s musical style, contributing heavily to Our Little Visionary and Happy Ending, particularly as a songwriter and lead vocalist. Following Dogstar’s long hiatus, Domrose returned with Keanu Reeves and Robert Mailhouse and contributed to the band’s reunion albums Somewhere Between the Power Lines and Palm Trees and All In Now.
