JOHN MILES STUDIO ALBUMS
Rebel
Released 1976
John Miles’ debut solo album was the first album he recorded for Decca Records. It remains one of the most underrated rock records of the 1970s. The album’s opening track was an astonishing piece of music fueled by elements of progressive rock, pop music, and classical surrounded by great guitar playing and a stunning Orchestra. Of course, it was all brought together by John Miles’ brilliant songwriting and jaw-dropping vocal performances. You can read our in-depth review of this album by clicking on this link.

Stranger in the City
Released 1977
Long before Sting wrote the song “Englishman in New York,” John Miles took his UK roots and traveled across the Atlantic to record his follow-up album in New York City. The results were the fabulous Stranger In The City album. The album was heavily promoted by Decca Records in the US as I remember seeing trade ads for the album in all the popular rock magazines at the time. The album came in a wonderful gatefold. The album was a mix of rock and roll music and orchestrated pop music and even a disco cut called “Slow Down,” which actually went all the way to number two on the US Disco Charts.

Zaragon

John Miles’ 1978 release Argon presented a very different-sounding artist from this previous album. This was a cool record, but it didn’t sell too well.
