The origins of  Strokes began in New York City in the late 1990s The band initially consisted of five members and has released six studio albums, achieving both commercial success and critical acclaim. Their debut album, Is This It, was released in 2001 and is widely regarded as one of the greatest albums of the 2000s. The band has experienced several hiatuses and side projects among members but remains active. Over the years, The Strokes have received numerous awards, including a BRIT Award for Best International Album. Their influence on the rock and indie music scenes has been substantial, cementing their place in modern music history.

Julian Casablancas

Julian Casablancas is the lead vocalist and primary songwriter for The Strokes. He formed the band in 1998 with guitarist Nick Valensi and drummer Fabrizio Moretti, later adding Albert Hammond Jr. and Nikolai Fraiture. Casablancas has been with the band since its inception and has contributed to all their albums, including Is This It, Room on Fire, First Impressions of Earth, Angles, Comedown Machine, and The New Abnormal. His distinct vocal style and lyrical contributions have been integral to the band’s sound and success. Outside of The Strokes, Casablancas has pursued solo projects, releasing Phrazes for the Young in 2009, and he founded the band The Voidz, with whom he has released several albums.

Nick Valensi

Nick Valensi, the band’s lead guitarist, has also been with The Strokes since their formation in 1998. Valensi’s guitar work is a defining element of the band’s sound, particularly on albums like Is This It and Room on Fire. He has played on all the band’s albums and has contributed significantly to their music with his innovative guitar riffs and melodies. Beyond The Strokes, Valensi has worked with other artists and bands, including contributing guitar work for Regina Spektor and being a member of the band CRX, which released its debut album, New Skin, in 2016.

Fabrizio Moretti

Fabrizio Moretti is the drummer for The Strokes and has been with the band since its early days in 1998. Moretti’s drumming is known for its precision and energetic style, which has been a key component of the band’s rhythm section across all their albums. He has also explored other musical ventures, including being a part of the band Little Joy, which released a self-titled album in 2008, and Machinegum, known for their album Conduit released in 2019.

Nikolai Fraiture

Nikolai Fraiture is the bassist for The Strokes and has been a member since the band’s inception in 1998. Fraiture’s bass lines provide a solid foundation for the band’s music and are particularly notable on tracks from albums such as Is This It and First Impressions of Earth. In addition to his work with The Strokes, Fraiture has pursued solo projects, including his band Nickel Eye, which released The Time of the Assassins in 2009. He has also played with the band Summer Moon, which released With You Tonight in 2017.

Albert Hammond Jr.

Albert Hammond Jr. is the rhythm guitarist for The Strokes and joined the band shortly after its formation in 1998. His guitar work and stage presence have been vital to the band’s dynamic, contributing to every album they have released. Hammond Jr. has also enjoyed a successful solo career, releasing several albums including Yours to Keep (2006) and Francis Trouble (2018). His solo work has allowed him to explore different musical styles while maintaining his role in The Strokes.
