Staind was formed in Springfield, Massachusetts, in 1995. The band has released seven studio albums, achieving significant commercial success, including multiple chart-topping hits and several awards. The group’s lineup has seen a few changes over the years, with some members contributing to all albums and others participating in specific periods. Their music, which spans genres like alternative metal and post-grunge, has allowed them to leave a notable mark in the rock music scene.
Aaron Lewis
Aaron Lewis, the lead vocalist and founding member of Staind, has been with the band since its inception in 1995. His deep, growling vocals became a signature sound for Staind throughout their active years and on all their studio albums, from their debut Tormented in 1996 to their most recent album, Staind, released in 2011. Lewis’s lyrical content, often introspective and dealing with personal themes, has been a defining feature of the band’s music. Outside of Staind, Aaron Lewis has also enjoyed a successful solo career in country music, releasing several albums that have received critical and commercial acclaim.
Mike Mushok
Mike Mushok, the lead guitarist, joined Staind at the band’s formation and has been a constant presence ever since. Known for his heavy guitar riffs and melodic solos, Mushok’s playing is crucial to the band’s sound. He has played on all of Staind’s albums, contributing significantly to their evolving sound. Beyond Staind, Mike formed the band Saint Asonia in 2015, which also features former members of other well-known rock bands. Saint Asonia has released multiple albums and received positive responses for their music.
Johnny April
Johnny April, the bassist and backing vocalist, has been with Staind since their first album. His bass playing and backing vocals are essential elements of the band’s sound, contributing to both their studio and live performances. He remained with the band until their hiatus in 2012 and returned for subsequent reunion shows. April has not been as publicly active in music outside of Staind, focusing more on personal interests and smaller music projects.
Jon Wysocki
Jon Wysocki was the original drummer for Staind and was part of the band from 1995 until 2011. His drumming style helped define the rhythmic backbone of Staind’s music across their first six studio albums. After leaving the band, Wysocki continued to pursue music, working with various artists and bands on different projects, though none as high-profile as Staind.
Sal Giancarelli
Sal Giancarelli stepped in as Staind’s drummer after Jon Wysocki’s departure in 2011. He played on the band’s seventh album, Staind, and has been part of their touring lineup for reunion shows. Giancarelli brought a new dynamic to the band’s sound with his drumming, which meshed well with Staind’s established style. His work with Staind remains his most notable contribution to the music industry.
