Our Hinder songs list features the best songs from a great American rock band formed in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The initial three members were Austin Winkler (lead vocals), guitarist Joe “Blower” Garvey, and drummer Cody Hanson. In 2003, bassist Mike Roden and guitarist Mark King completed the lineup. Hinder released four studio albums between 2005 and 2012. Lead singer Austin Winkler departed from the band in 2013. They found and hired Marshal Dutton as the lead singer. He was previously the lead singer of the band Faktion and had been working with Hinder since 2009. After the addition of Dutton, Hinder released two more studio albums. The band was inducted into the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame in 2007.
Extreme Behavior is Hinder’s debut album, released in 2005. The record went triple-platinum despite the negative reviews. The second studio album, Take it to the Limit, was released in November 2008. All American Nightmare, released in December 2010, is Hinder’s third studio album. The final studio album to feature Winkler on vocals is the fourth, titled Welcome to the Freakshow. It was released in December 2012. 2015 brought Hinder’s fifth studio album, When the Smoke Clears, and a new frontman in Marshal Dutton. In August 2017, Hinder released their sixth and final album, The Reign. Hinder has so many outstanding songs that could have ended up on the Top 10 Hinder Songs list, but here are the ones we chose to use.
# 10 – What Ya Gonna Do
Peaking at number twenty on the Billboard Mainstream charts, “What Ya Gonna Do” is our number ten song on the Top 10 Hinder Songs list. The song is off their third studio album, All American Nightmare, released in 2010. This album is undoubtedly heavier than their two previous releases. “What Ya Gonna Do” was released in May 2011 and was written by then-lead singer Austin Winkler. The song is about how it feels being on the road, never seeing your family, and the toll it takes on everyone’s personal life.
# 9 – How Long
The third single released from Hinder’s debut album, Extreme Behavior, “How Long,” reached number six on Billboard’s Mainstream charts. The song is a follow-up to the trendy “Lips of an Angel.” Extreme Behavior was released in 2005, went platinum in 2006, and ultimately reached triple-platinum status. For reasons unknown, Hinder never recorded a video for “How Long.” The song centers on a woman leaving her man for someone else while still wanting to remain friends, and his response is not very kind. This album was outstanding, with so many excellent songs. It is worth purchasing and cranking up in the car.
# 8 – Save Me
The first single released from Hinder’s fourth studio album, Welcome to the Freakshow, is “Save Me.” The song is based on Winkler’s drug addiction. There was a time when he was in a “dark place,” and a lot of the songs on the album reflect that “get out of my face” mentality. The album, Welcome to the Freakshow, was released in December 2012. Shortly after the release of the album, Winkler went into drug rehab. This was the final album to feature Austin as the lead singer. “Save Me” peaked at number 23 on the Billboard Mainstream charts in January 2013. Personally, it should have been in the top ten, but what do I know? I am just a huge fan.
# 7 – Better than Me
From the debut album Extreme Behavior comes a song everyone can relate to. “Better than Me” is about a broken relationship. A relationship where the guy wants the girl back, but because of the lies he told, he feels that she can do better than him. “Better Than Me” is the fourth single from the debut album. The song was on many different music charts in the United States and Canada. On the Billboard Hot 100, the song reached number thirty-one. “Better than Me” was number eleven in Australia, number twelve on the Canada Hot AC, and number fourteen on the Mainstream Top 40. As with all Hinder songs, the lyrics, vocals, and guitar all fit perfectly together. They have a distinct vocal sound in Winkler.
# 6 – If Only For Tonight
This song comes from Hinder’s fifth studio album, When the Smoke Clears, featuring their new lead vocalist, Marshal Dutton. The album was released in May 2015. This is the first time I have listened to this album; every song on it is incredible. It’s just as good, if not better than the earlier Hinder albums. “If Only for Tonight” is about two lonely people who do not want to be alone. They need and want company, if only for one night. They have outstanding lyrics and unique vocals. Dutton’s voice fits Hinder very well.
# 5 – Should Have Known Better
From Hinder’s fourth studio album, Welcome to the Freakshow, we bring you, “Should Have Known Better” as our fifth choice on the Top 10 Hinder Songs list. The song is very catchy and resonates with many people. Anyone who has ever gone through a break-up, but just can not get over or stay away from the other person. Deep, intense lyrics that are easy to sing along to. If you have not done so, I highly recommend taking a listen, not only to the song but to the whole album. “Should Have Known Better” is an outstanding song!
# 4 – Nothing Left to Lose
From the fifth studio album, When the Smoke Clears, released in 2015. Hinder held a contest on their social media platforms so their fans could help name the album. “Nothing Left to Lose” is a cover song, originally performed by another Oklahoma City band, Nine Left Dead, formerly Harmful if Swallowed. The song wasn’t on the list of singles released from the album, but it should have been. “Nothing Left to Lose” has a killer beat, it’s hard-rockin’, and it speaks volumes about being cheated on and how it makes a person feel. Dutton is amazing on the vocals.
# 3 – Remember Me
Coming off the sixth and final Hinder album, The Reign. The album was released in August 2017. This was the lead single from the album, released in April 2017. “Remember Me” starts out with a few seconds of killer guitar playing. The song is hard rocking and begs you to “crank it up!” Dutton’s vocals are raw and intense, making this one of the album’s best songs.
# 2 – Far From Home
From Hinder’s 2008 album Take It to the Limit, the song centers on what the band was going through while on the road. The turmoil that is caused by the ‘ long distance’ relationships, which many of the band members were going through. Winkler’s voice is outstanding! He captures the emotion in the lyrics so well that it is very intense, and fans give the song a huge thumbs-up! A great ballad with outstanding emotional awareness. Take It to the Limit is Hinder’s second studio album, which was released in 2008. Again, every song on the album is outstanding, but this one stood out enough to make our list.
# 1 – Last Kiss Goodbye
Our number one song on the Top 10 Hinder Songs list is “Last Kiss Goodbye.” This song is also from the second studio album, Take It to the Limit. Another astounding song by Hinder about a woman cheating on her man. The vocals, lyrics, and guitar meld together perfectly. Once again, bringing great intense emotion, Winkler is superb. “Last Kiss Goodbye” was released in August 2008. It should have been on the charts, but it was one of many Hinder songs that didn’t make it. The song is something many people can relate to. Your girlfriend/boyfriend comes home later than normal, from a night out with ‘friends.’ They won’t look you in the eye, and they don’t want to talk about what they did. It was very emotionally painful, but a killer song.
