He has six Top 10 singles and five number one rap singles. His album Harlem World sold an impressive four million copies and his other two albums went gold. His hits include “Feel So Good,” “What You Want,” “Lookin’ at Me,” “Welcome Back” and “Breathe, Stretch, Shake”

Mason Betha was born on August 27, 1975. He became interested in music when he went to college. He dropped out to focus on his music career. He rapped with his childhood friend Cam’ron. They formed a group called Children of the Corn. Mase’s sister introduced him to the Notorious B.I.G.’s manager and he was hooked up with Puff Daddy. Puff Daddy would go on to sign him at his Bad Boy label.

Harlem World came out in 1998. The album peaked at number one on the R&B and Hip-Hop charts and the Billboard 200 charts. The album sold almost 273,000 copies in its first week of release. It features the singles “Feel So Good,” “What You Want,” “24 Hrs. to Live” and “Lookin’ at Me.” The album sold over four million copies. Double Up was released in 1999. The album peaked at number two on the R&B and Hip-Hop charts and number 11 on the Billboard 200 charts. The album sold over 350,000 copies in its first week. The album features the singles “Get Ready,” “Stay Out of My Way,” “All I Ever Wanted” and “Do It Again.” The album sold over 500,000 copies.

Mase retired for the first time after the release of this album. He decided to become a pastor. He ended up coming out of retirement and released another album. Welcome Back came out in 2004. It peaked at number three on the R&B and Hip-Hop charts and number four on the Billboard 200 charts. People really missed Mase while he was gone and supported his music when he returned. It features the singles “Welcome Back,” “Breathe, Stretch, Shake” and “Keep It On.” The album sold over 500,000 copies. Mase released a diss track to his former friend Cam’rom in 2017 called “The Oracle.”

Mase’s melodic flow was an influence on future rappers such as Kanye West, Fabulous and Pusha T. Jay-Z and Drake admired his work and used his lyrics for their songs. Mase’s rap career may not have lasted that long, but he managed to change music. He was able to retire from music and come back with a hit album. This is an indicator of how loved he is in the music industry. Our Top 10 Mase Songs list will feature his best songs.

# 10 – Get Ready ft. Blackstreet

The first song on our Top 10 Mase Songs list is “Get Ready” from the album Double Up. The song has a hip-hop sound. The fun song is about a myriad of things. Mase covers a lot of subjects on this song. He talks about being the best rapper in the game. He discusses how he wanted to be a rapper and be successful. He expresses how the women want him. He also talks about the money he has in his account. Mase also takes a jab at someone by calling him a one-hit wonder. He is bringing everything to the table with this track. He didn’t want to leave anything uncovered. The song could have been all over the place, but Mase brings it all together to make it work.

Mase used the sample from Shalamar’s “A Night to Remember.” The sample was perfect for this track. The songs couldn’t be more different, but the music from Shalamar’s hit song was magic for this track. It’s impossible to sit still while this track is playing. If you are a fan of Shalamar’s song, you know this song is will have you out of your seat. Mase’s laid-back rapping style works with the sample. He has a melodic flow that makes it easy to rap with him. What can we say about Blackstreet? They were an excellent addition to the song. They are one of the best r&b groups of the 90s so it made sense for them to guest star on the track. They have worked with other hip-hop acts so it wasn’t unusual for them to work with Mase. They do an amazing job singing the chorus to the song. It may not be one of Mase’s biggest hits, but you should check it out.

# 9 – You Should Be Mine (Don’t Waste Your Time) Brian McKnight ft. Mase and Kelly Price

The next song on our Top 10 Mase Songs list is “You Should Be Mine (Don’t Waste Your Time)” from Brian McKnight’s album Anytime. The cautionary song is about a man telling a woman that he’s the one for her. He will treat her better than any other man would. He wants her to be his. This is the type of song that will have women going crazy while listening to the lyrics. Women enjoy these types of songs because they are treasured and not objectified. It’s always a beautiful thing when women are treated like queens in songs. Anyone woman would be lucky to have these lyrics serenaded to her.

Brian McKnight is considered one of the kings of romance. He decided to change up his style for this track. He still wanted to be the king of romance, but he wanted to add some hip-hop flavor to his song. This song gave Brian McKnight a chance to step outside of his comfort zone and do a song with an edge. Mase does a great job rapping on this track. He’s talking about how special the woman is to him. He doesn’t treat her like an object. He sounds similar to P. Diddy on this song. Kelly Price sings the chorus on the song. She has the voice of an angel and is a joy to hear on the track. The music has a hip-hop and r&b sound. Brian McKnight was known for adult contemporary music so it was a nice change of pace. He proved he could do it. Fans of all three acts will enjoy the collaboration among them. They worked very well together and should record another track soon.

# 8 – Top of the World Brandy ft. Mase

The reflective song is from Brandy’s album Never Say Never. The track has an r&b and hip-hop beat. This infectious song is about her living her life by her terms. People think she’s changed, but she didn’t. She wants the world to know that she’s just living her life. The only difference is that she’s living a better life than the one she had before she became famous. Brandy was no stranger to working with hip-hop artists so it wasn’t a shock that she did it again. She worked with rappers on remixes to her songs prior to this one. She wants the world to know that she’s a normal girl who is doing what she has to do. She’s not just sitting on “top of the world.”

The beat on this track is out of this world. The song samples “Back in the Day” from Ahmad. The sample works for this track. Rodney Jerkins did a fantastic job arranging this song. The music is just as phenomenal as the song. We dare you to sit still while this song is playing. You won’t be able to make it. Mase’s rap is just what the song needed to cap it off. He’s there to get the party started. His slowed down rhyming skills were just what the musical doctor ordered to get you in the groove of the song. Brandy and Mase sing and rap in time with the beat. You will most likely be joining them while they are doing their thing on the track.

# 7 – Breath, Stretch, Shake ft. P. Diddy

The congratulatory song is from the album Welcome Back. The song has a hip-hop beat. The energetic song is about him making his comeback. He talks about the things he has. He raps about having money and buying expensive things with it. He also talks about how he was saved by God. As we he mentioned earlier, he retired from music to be a pastor. He wanted to let the listeners know that he was able to buy expensive things, but he also humbled himself by turning to God. You definitely don’t hear that too much on hip-hop songs. Rappers don’t usually talk about religion in their songs. Mase wanted to pave a new road for himself by becoming a pastor.

The beat is upbeat and smoking hot. The crowd will be jumping when this song is played. This is the perfect club banger. Rick Rock did an excellent job arranging the music on this jam. He blended hip-hop, r&b and rock music to make this jam. He created a fantastic mix that will get the party started. The verses are hard. Mase and P. Diddy trade rhymes off of each other as they talk about what they have in life. They sound similar because they have similar rhyming skills. They both have laid-back styles that work flawlessly with the bouncy beat. Mase proved that you can rap about inspirational stuff and still be hardcore. The song managed to go gold so fans weren’t turned off by his new style of music.

# 6 – Welcome Back

The perky song is from the album of the same name. The song has a hip-hop beat. The quirky song is about him being back on the music scene. Mase retired to become a pastor. He decided to come out of retirement and record music again. He released this track to go along with the album of the same name. This move could have been a disaster for him because his fans moved on to other rappers. He came back just in time and realized his fans still loved him. This is his tribute to his return to the music scene. His fans couldn’t be happier that he came back to the scene. He let the world know that the game changed when he disappeared, but it needed him back.

The song features a sample of the song “Welcome Back, Kotter.” Fans of hip-hop music would never have expected this track to be a sample of a hip-hop song. Needless to say, the song was given a hip-hop flare. There’s no way he could have left it the same way and it would have worked in the hip-hop community. You can still hear the essence of “Welcome Back, Kotter” in the song, but the beat is driven more than the original version. The drumbeat drives the track. Mase’s rapping skills are still as good as they were when he was at the top of his game. His lyrics are cleaner on this song than they were on his previous tracks. Mase proved he could be a pastor and a rapper.

This song has crossover appeal so he could gain a new fanbase with this song. You may find yourself singing the hook while the song is playing. Mase decided to try his hand at singing. He sings the chorus of the song along with a background singer. He took a huge risk that might have been a mistake. His voice is decent, but he shouldn’t change musical careers.

# 5 – Love Me 112 ft. Mase

The next song on our Top 10 Mase Songs list is “Love Me” from 112’s album Room 112. The song has an r&b and hip-hop beat. The tender song is about a man expressing how much he loves the woman in his life. He wants to apologize for the things he did wrong. He assures her that she’s the one for him. This is the type of song that will touch women’s hearts. Female fans of r&b music always love to hear a song where they are the only ones for someone. This song will captivate female listeners. Men should play this song for their women if they want to stay on their good sides or if they are in trouble with them. They will most likely be okay if they play this track for their women.

112 and Mase were on P. Diddy’s label so it made sense they collaborated on a track together. 112 are in their element with this track. This is the type of song they are known for recording. Tracks like this one helped make them a popular group in the 90s and with the ladies. Mase’s style of rapping blended perfectly with the group. His flow worked well with their vocals. If you pay attention to Mase’s verse, he’s possibly getting jabs in at rapper Jay Z. He talks about Jay-Z rapping about platinum things and not having platinum hits. The music has a cool vibe. It features a sample of Luther Vandross’ “Don’t You Know That?” The song works because he’s one of the kings of romance so it makes sense that 112 would use it for their song.

# 4 – Only You Remix 112 ft. The Notorious B.I.G. and Mase

The romantic song is on 112’s eponymous album. The song has an r&b and hip-hop beat. The loving song is about a man who can’t live without the love of his life. He only thinks about her. The man wants the woman to know that he can’t live without her love. He feels like he’s the only one for her. He doesn’t want anyone else, but her. She makes him happy and he refuses to be with another woman. This is the type of song women love to hear. Women love to know that they are the only ones for men. No woman wants to compete with another woman for a man’s love.

112 teamed up with Mase again for this track. They also teamed up with the legendary rapper Notorious B.I.G. They were all on the same label so they were going to be on the same track at some point. We chose the remix for our list because it features two great rappers. The Notorious B.I.G. opens the track with his verse. He will blow you away with his flows. He has a laidback and cool style to him. Listening to his flows will make you miss him even more. His presence is definitely missed in music. 112 pick up on the next part of the song. They are at home singing what they are good at recording. They work well as a group. They make women believe they are the only ones for them. Mase is next on the roster. He doesn’t play as big a role on this track as he did on our previous entry, but he sounds good. His rhymes are melodic and easy to sing. He raps in a nasal tone for this song, but it doesn’t get annoying.

# 3 – Lookin’ at Me ft. Puff Daddy

The bitter song is from the Harlem World album. The song has a hip-hop beat. The questionable song is about a man being in a club and wonders why the guys are staring at him while he’s with his lady. He wants to know why people are jealous of him because he has the finer things in life. He thinks that the guys were looking for problems from him because they want to be tough. They keep hating on him. He asks the guys if he could have things without it being a problem. He wants to have a good time with his girl without the naysayers.

This track is his version of boasting about his career. Mase talks about the things he has and doesn’t think people should stare at him. This song is from his debut album so it might have been a little too soon to talk about all of the ice he had. The nitpick doesn’t hurt the song because it’s still fire. The Neptunes did a wonderful job producing this track. It has a recognizable Neptunes beat. You will know they produced it as soon as you hear the music. The music combines hip-hop with rock music and that’s how they usually create their sound. This banger will keep you on the floor from beginning to end. You won’t want the beat to stop because it’s that good. Mase and Puff Daddy sound good on this track. You might have a little trouble distinguishing them from each other because they sound alike.

# 2 – What You Want ft. Total

The sultry song is from the Harlem World album. The song has a hip-hop beat. The sensual song is about a woman who wants to know what her man wants from her. He gives her everything she’s ever wanted so she wants to know what he wants in return. She wants to know if he wants to be with her for years. The lyrics are straightforward. They aren’t hard to decipher at all because she wants to know what he wants from her. It’s different to hear a woman ask what the man wants from her. We usually hear songs about what the man will do for women. It’s nice for men to hear a song where the females want to do something for them.

The beat of this jam will hook you instantly. Your head will be bopping as soon as the first notes drop. You will be on the dance floor in no time. It won’t be hard for DJs to get people on the floor with this track. This song can be heard at the club or at cookouts. Chances are you have heard this song before. Mase and Total are on the same label so they naturally worked on a song together. There probably weren’t too many artists at Bad Boy Records that didn’t work together. Mase does a fabulous job on his verses. His rhymes are fierce. He raps in time with the beat throughout the song. Total do a great job supporting him in the background. They are Bad Boy’s version of TLC. They sing r&b music so it wasn’t hard for them to do a great job on this track. They sing in time with the beat as well. You will want to put this song on repeat so you can keep hearing it.

# 1 – Feel So Good ft. Kelly Price

The number one song on our Top 10 Mase Songs list is “Feel So Good” from the album Harlem World. The song has a hip-hop beat. The sexy song is self-explanatory. It’s a song about someone making him feel good. He wouldn’t change the person even if he could do it. She loves her just the way he is. It’s a feel-good song designed for dancing in a club. Men get their backs kicked in a lot in songs so it would be a good change for them to hear a song about a woman who wouldn’t change him. The song is told from a man’s point of view, but he isn’t doing a diss track to another rapper. This is a simple song about a woman making him feel good. This is the track that helped introduce the world to Mase.

The bouncy beat is impossible to ignore. The song features a sample and an interpolation. The song contains a sample of Kool & the Gang’s “Hollywood Swinging” and The Miami Sound Machine’s “Bad Boys.” We’re not surprised that the latter was used because Puff Daddy definitely promotes his label enough so it makes sense that the song was used as a sample. Mase’s skills are impeccable. He made a very impressive debut on this song. You can forget that he’s a newcomer to the music scene when you hear him on this track. He raps as if he were in the game for years. He’s the definition of a chilled rapper. His vocals are smooth like butter. Kelly Price’s vocals are easy on the ear. She makes you want to sing along with her as she sings the infectious chorus.
