“Red Roses” is a chance to slow things down. Midnight Star released a lot of songs with tempo. This track gives the group a chance to sing a ballad. The band proved they could sing touching romantic ballads with the same effort as their dance tracks. Midnight Star should record ballads because they showcase their talents better than the up-tempo tracks. This song was recorded in the 90s, but it sounds as if it were recorded today. The jam sounds like it would get airplay today. Melvin Gentry’s voice is breathtaking. He sounds soulful singing ballads. If you are familiar with New Edition’s song “Mr. Telephone Man,” this theme might sound familiar to you. “Operator” has the same theme as New Edition’s hit song. This is a different time from when this song was recorded so the “operator” helping him get in touch with the lady he loves may seem weird to people now. It made sense when the song was recorded. There’s no mistaking the 80s sound for this track. It starts off like “Midas Touch” and changes into a futuristic sound. The song utilizes the synthesizer, vocoder and drums. Their love won’t fade away. He assures her that he will be there for her. He will never leave her. He sounds very confident on this song. He needs to be confident to pull off this song.
This jam is what classic r&b is all about. It has everything it needs to be a great song. As soon as you hear the first drumbeat, you know the song is going to be an instant hit. The hypnotic music drags you into the song. You will have to be made of stone not to want to move around to this jam. This banger was recorded decades ago, but it will get people on the floor as soon as it starts. This song will never get old because the beat sounds as if it were recorded yesterday. The music is just as good as the vocal on the song. Bo Watson’s vocals are brilliant. He captures your attention and holds it prisoner until he is done. His vocals are captivating. He is an amazing singer. His silky and smooth vocals are just what the love doctor ordered. His range is off the charts. He knows when to hold back and when to reach for the stars. If you are a fan of r&b music or grew up around it, you are familiar with this track. As soon as you hear the first couple of bars, you know what this song is. This song still gets played on r&b radio stations today. Belinda Lipscomb and Bo Watson deserve a round of applause for their performances on the track.
They switch things up. Belinda Lipscomb takes the lower half of the track while Bo Watson sings the higher half. He sings in falsetto and sounds similar to Babyface when he was singing with the Deele. As the song progresses, they switch pitches. Belinda Lipscomb takes the higher half and Bo Watson sings the lower half. They nailed the track once the bridge starts. Bo Watson hits a jaw dropping high note at the end that will stun you into silence. This song wasn’t a single, but it received massive airplay. The track became one of their signature songs.
