Eyes have always played a powerful role in songwriting, and this list of the 10 best songs about eyes brings together popular songs along with some tracks where that single image drives the mood, the story, and the emotional impact. Whenever I put lists like this together, I have a really good time digging in deep. I want to pay my respects to the famous ones, but I don’t want a list filled with just the famous, common ones everyone expects. It’s more fun to choose some songs that people may not expect to be on the list and turn people on to music they may never have heard before. Hope you enjoy this one.

# 8 – Sad-Eyed Lady Of The Lowland
This has always been one of my favorite Bob Dylan songs. The song’s chord changes and melody are almost as effective as his brilliant lyrics. This was one of Bob Dylan’s most memorable melodies. This one has always been very special and definitely one of his most sentimental. The song was originally released on Blonde on Blonde.
# 7 – Anime Eyes – Kacey Musgraves
This is such a tender ballad by the brilliant Kacey Musgraves. She sings about how falling in love can be so incredible that the world also becomes a fun fantasy cartoon filled with rainbows, ice cream, and all that happy stuff. However, through it all, you’re just waiting for the lights to go out and the green fields to turn gray. It’s so sad that I have to think that way.
# 6 – My Bionic Eyes – Liz Phair
Some pure rock and roll with an attitude that we all fell in love with the first time we ever heard Liz Phair. She has always had a knack for blending punk and pop in a way that is just so highly addictive. She’s the kind of woman you want to watch TV with if you know what I mean.
# 5 – You Can Close Your Eyes – Joni Mitchell with James Taylor
It doesn’t get any better than listening to James Taylor and Joni Mitchell singing together and harmonizing on stage in such jaw-dropping fashion. This recording took place in 1970. “You Can Close Your Eyes” was written by James Taylor.
# 4 – Fool In The Rain – Led Zeppelin
Eyes play a prominent role in this classic Led Zeppelin song from the band’s final album. Robert Plant sings in the song’s opening moments. “There’s a light in your eyes that keeps shining, like a star that can’t wait for the night.” He then goes on to sing about being blinded, which, of course, is another reference to eyes. As time goes on, I continue to really enjoy this album that I was not crazy about when it was first released.
# 3 – In Your Eyes – Peter Gabriel
Peter Gabriel’s song “In Your Eyes” fueled one of the most poignant and beloved scenes in music history, as John Cusack stood outside his ex-girlfriend’s window, holding that huge boombox above his head, playing it. But would it have been as effective if it weren’t such a spectacualr song? Probably not. This is one of Peter Gabriel’s most wonderful releases of all time.
# 2 – Lyin’ Eyes – Eagles
For any man who has ever been cheated on, this is a hard song to listen to. The song was released on the band’s 1975 album One Of These Nights. It was the second single released from the album.
# 1 – Behind Blues Eyes – The Who
As a classic rock history site, we had no choice but to put this song at number one, as it stands as one of the defining tracks by one of the most celebrated classic rock bands of all time in The Who. It also appears on one of the greatest classic rock albums ever released. It’s as simple as that.
