Our Top 10 Suede Songs looks at the songs of a band that was very popular in the United Kingdom but never broke big in the United States where they were known as The London Suede. The band’s peak of popularity occured in the 1990s when they enjoyed great success fueling what was often called the new British pop movement or simply called Britpop. Along with bands like Oasis and Blur, the group Suede countered the grunge movement in the United States at the time.

The group’s first album was released in 1993 entitled Suede. Throughout the years the group released eight studio albums and 31 singles. In the early 90s they were hailed by a British music trade magazine as being the best new British pop band of the 90s. Our top 10 Suede songs list picks out 10 of our favorite songs by this great band.

# 10 –  The Drowners

We open up our top 10 Suede songs list with the fabulous song entitled “The Drowners.” The song “The Drowners” stands as the band’s debut single. The single was released in 1992. This one has a very heavy Beatles vibe to it. The star power of Brett Anderson is instantly felt from the opening seconds of the video. In many ways he always reminded us of a cross between David Bowie and Freddie Mercury. But in the end he really developed his own very distinct style. In the United Kingdom the song hit number forty nine on the charts.

# 9 – She’s in Fashion

Continuing with our top 10 Suede s songs list we take a listen to the great song entitled “She’s in Fashion.” This has such a soulful feel to it with that great guitar groove. The song was released on the album entitled Head Music. The album was released in 1999. It was the second single released from the album. The song was a hit on the UK Singles Charts peaking at number thirteen.

# 8 – We Are the Pigs

In the number eight spot on our top 10 Suede s songs list we present the song entitled “We Are the Pigs”  The song was released on the album entitled Dog Man Star. The album was released in 1994. It was the first single released from the album. The song was a hit on the UK Singles Charts peaking at number eighteen.

# 7 – Attitude

In the number seven position on our top 10 Suede songs list is the song entitled “Attitude.” This cool grooving song was written by Brett Anderson and Mat Osman.  The song was released on the album entitled Singles. The album was released in 2003.  It was the first single released from the album. The song was a hit on the UK Singles Charts peaking at number fourteen.

# 6 – Beautiful Ones

Landing in the number six spot on our top 10 Suede songs list we present the song “Beautiful Ones.” The band’s new guitarist at the time Richard Oakes’ really list this one up right from the beginning. The song was released on the album entitled Coming Up. The album was released in 1996. It was the second single released from the album. The song was a top 10 hit on the UK Singles Charts peaking at number eight. The song was also a top 10 hit in Finland peaking at number six.

# 5 – Animal Nitrate

At the halfway point on our top 10 Suede songs list is the killer track “Animal Nitrate” The song was issued on the band’s debut album entitled Suede. At times Brett Anderson reminds us of Adam Ant. “Animal Nitrate” was the third single released from the album. The song was a top 10 hit on the UK Singles Charts peaking at number seven. It was also a top 20 hit in Ireland and New Zealand.

# 4 – Positivity

Hitting the number four spot on our top 10 Suede songs list we present the song “Positivity.” There is a definite strong Oasis guitar vibe on this one. The melody has a cool 60s groove. The song was released on the album entitled A New Morning. The album was released in 2002. It was the first single released from the album. This would be a big hit in Denmark as it hit number one in that country. The song was a hit on the UK Singles Charts peaking at number sixteen.

# 3 – Electricity

Moving along on our top 10 Suede songs list we present the song entitled “Electricity” The song was released on the album entitled Head Music. The album was released in 1999. It was the first single released from the album. The song was a hit on the UK Singles Charts peaking all the way up to number five. It seems five was the magic number for this one as the song also hit number five in Finland and Norway. Love the guitar work on this one.

# 2 – Stay Together

Right up against the top spot on our top 10 Suede songs list we celebrate the song “Stay Together.” The song was released as a stand alone single. The single was released in 1994. The song was a huge hit on the UK Singles Charts peaking at number three.  The song also was a hit on the Swedish National Record Charts reaching all the way up to number 10. The song was composed by Brett Anderson and Bernard Butler. The vocals that Brett Anderson delivers on this track are astonishing.

# 1 – Trash

We close out our top 10 Suede songs list with the killer tune entitled “Trash.” The song was released on the album entitled Coming Up. The album was released in 1996. It was the first single released from the album. The song was a hit on the UK Singles Charts peaking at number three. The song also was a hit on the Swedish National Record Charts reaching all the way up to number five. The song hit number one in Finland. This fantastic hit single has become the band’s biggest selling song of all time. It has that perfect British Pop sound of the 90s that was fueled by the popularity of Oasis who were inspired originally of course by The Beatles. This one stands as one of the best tracks of the 1990s.
