Songs with the word “Pink” in the title define another word topic article that I really enjoy writing. Composing articles like this serves many purposes. First, there’s always the person who is searching for songs with a particular word in them, for an event, an issue with a relationship, or multiple reasons. Secondly, and more importantly to my purpose, I get to pick songs from many different artists that some people may not know much about. So it’s a perfect forum to turn people on to musical artists without spending the entire article on one particular artist. Of course, it’s always another way to celebrate artists we are already familiar with. In the end, it’s just fun to write….. So here’s another one focused on a color, as we introduce pink!
# 10 – Pink – Aerosmith
We keep the title really simple on our opening song on this list. Most Aerosmith fans who came to know the band in the seventies usually complain about their 80s and ’90s material. However, I thought they released some really good albums during those years. This was one of the better tracks.
# 9 – Pink Turns to Blue – Hüsker Dü
Hüsker Dü’s song about addiction was released on their legendary album Zen Arcade. If you are unfamiliar with this band, this is the album to start with.
# 8 – Pink Moon – Nick Drake
This was the title track to Nick Drake’s third and final studio album. It was released in 1972. Sadly, Nick Drake passed away just a couple of years later at the age of 26.
# 7 – Pink Thing – XTC
I love how this band XTC composed such wonderful, melodic songs, yet had a sort of dark, comedic vibe to their material. Their writing reminded me a little of 10cc. This song was released on one of their greatest albums, Oranges and Lemons, in 1989.
# 6 – Pink Cadillac – Bruce Springsteen
Not many artists could release a song as a B-side and then have another artist record it and turn it into a huge hit, as Natalie Cole did with this one. Nonetheless, I always liked Springsteen’s original version better.
# 5 -Pink Elephant – Cherry Poppin’ Daddies
Yes, it’s time to add a little swing to the mix, and you know we have all seen that Pink Elephant at one time or maybe many others.
# 4 – Infected Mushroom – Pink Nightmares
I find these two guys, Erez Eisen and Amit Duvdevani, behind this musical act very innovative in how they blend just about every musical style known to man into a very adventurous, addictive listening experience.
# 3 – Pink Panther Theme
Yeah, okay, I guess we had to put this on the list. Yet I always found those movies so boring, and they never seemed to leave theaters when they first came out.
# 2 – Pink Houses – John Mellencamp
This was the John Mellencamp period I enjoyed the most. His music had matured since his first couple of albums, but it still had that rock and roll simplicity in both melody and lyric. He had not gone too deep yet lyrically, which was fine when he did, but this spoke to everyone. And it just grooved so well.
# 1 – Pretty In Pink – The Psychedelic Furs
Some people may wonder what came first, the song or the movie. Well, that’s an easy one, as the Molly Ringwald-starring movie directed by John Hughes was inspired by this wonderful song by The Psychedelic Furs.
