Hey, they say it’s your birthday! Well even if you are not around anymore, it’s still your birthday and thanks for the memories. Yup, nothing like mixing up the Beatles and Bob Hope together in our opening sentence. And we know that all classic rock fans know the Beatles and we can pretty much assume that anybody over 50 remembers who Bob Hope was. But, none of that really really matters right now because it’s time to celebrate some great rock and roll October birthdays. Looking over this list can be a bit sad at times because many of these artists are no longer with us. Nonetheless, they left us a great body of work that keeps their spirits alive. Additionally, not all of them are gone as some are still here with us. So here we go celebrating the birthdays of some great rock and roll artists.
In this article, we list the name of the artists, and their birthdays and also include one of our favorite tracks recorded by these great rock and rollers. Ready for some cake?

# 1 – Albert Collins
We open up our Biggest Rock Star Birthdays In October list with the rock and roll blues legend Albert Collins. Albert Collins was born on October 1st, 1932. The smoking guitar player passed away on November 24, 1993.
# 2 – Don Mclean
This man needs no introduction. The legendary composer of “American Pie” was born on October 2nd, 1945
# 3 – Mike Rutherford
The man who helps fuel the sound of Genesis was born on October 2nd, 1950.
# 4 – Sting
The legendary rocker who drove the Police, as well as an incredible body of solo work, was born on October 2nd, 1950.
# 5 – Chubby Checker
The man who gave us the Twist and showed the world the power of the dance craze and going viral in a 1960s sense was born on October 3, 1941.
# 6 – Stevie Ray Vaughan
This is a tough one. Stevie Ray Vaughan left us way too soon. We have lost many rock stars in plane crashes. We will never forget the day we heard the news that Stevie Ray Vaughan passed. The great Stevie Ray Vaughn was born on October 3, 1954, in the city of Dallas, Texas. Happy Birthday Stevie Ray Vaughan.
# 7 – Lindsey Buckingham
Fleetwood Mac’s Lindsey Buckingham was born on October 3, 1949.
# 8 – Tommy Lee
The man behind the powerful drums of Motley Crue and a lot of other things was born on October 3rd, 1962.
# 9 – Steve Miller
Who doesn’t love Steve Miller? The man who brought us “Jet Airliner,” and “The Joker,” was born on October 5th, 1953.
# 10 – John Mellencamp
Good old John Mellencamp was born on October 7th, 1951.
# 11 – John Lennon
This one may be the toughest of them all to celebrate and also the most glorious. Perhaps the most important rock star of all time along with his partner Paul and bandmates George and Ringo, John Lennon literally changed the world. John Lennon was born on October 9th, 1940. He was so horribly murdered on December 8th, 1980 by a despicable person we won’t even name.
# 12 – John Entwistle
The man who played the bass like no other in the legendary band The Who. John Entwistle was born on October 9, 1944. He passed away on June 27, 2002.
# 13 – Jackson Brown
A big favorite of all music fans is the iconic Jackson Brown. The man was born on October 9, 1948.
# 14 – David Lee Roth
The legendary Van Halen frontman and solo artist was born on October 10, 1954. There will never be another and we are glad he is still with us.
# 15 – Sammy Hagar
We never realized that Sammy Hagar was much older than David Lee Roth. He doesn’t look it and he sure does not sound like it. I think you can tell who our favorite is. The Red Rocker was born on October 13, 1947. Now in his seventies, he is still rocking and sounds just as good as he did in his twenties.
# 16 – Chuck Berry
If it wasn’t for Chuck…… The man who is credited with being one of rock’s originators was born on October 18, 1926. Chuck Berry passed away on March 18, 2017.
# 17 – Laura Nyro
We always loved Laura Nyro. More people need to know about her. The wonderful songwriter and performer was born on October 18, 1947. She passed away on April 8, 1997.
# 18 – Tom Petty
One of rock and roll’s all-time favorites was born on October 20, 1950. It’s hard to believe that it’s been over five years now since he passed away on October 2, 2017.
# 19 – Elvin Bishop
Elvin Bishop was born on October 21, 1942.
# 20 – Leslie West
The great guitarist and founder of Mountain was born on October 22, 1945. We always loved listening to him on the Howard Stern Show. Leslie West passed away in December 2020.
# 21 – Bill Wyman
The legendary bass player of The Rolling Stones was born on October 24, 1936.
# 22 – Jon Anderson
No singer ever sounded like Jon Anderson of Yes. Jon Anderson was born on October 25, 1944.
# 23 – Scott Weiland
The brilliant lead singer of the Stone Temple Pilots was born on October 27, 1967. He passed away on December 3rd 2015.
# 24 – Charlie Daniles
Charlie Daniels helped push southern rock into the mainstream while still retaining its genuine southern county rock feel. Charlie Daniels was born on October 28, 1936. He passed away at 83 years old in 2020.
# 25 – Grace Slick
The long-time co-lead singer of the bands The Jefferson Airplane, and Jefferson Starship and Starship and The Great Society was born on October 30th, 1939.
