How The Eagles' Las Vegas Sphere Residency Began

When the Eagles announced their residency at Sphere in Las Vegas on June 13, 2024, the original plan called for eight shows over four weekends from September 20 through October 19. A few months earlier, reports suggested this was in the works, and the official announcement finally confirmed it. Nobody knew at the time just how large the residency would eventually become. Those first eight announced concerts marked the beginning of what grew into the longest-running residency in Sphere history.

At the time of the announcement, we were all getting older, and it seemed possible that this could be one of the last chances to see what was left of the Eagles. Just a month earlier, I had gone to see the Rolling Stones for the first time in my life, guided by that same philosophy. I’m glad I did, as it was such a spectacular show.

The original Eagles performances were scheduled for September 20, September 21, September 27, September 28, October 11, October 12, October 18, and October 19, 2024. General ticket sales were scheduled to begin on Friday, June 21 at 10 a.m. PT, with prices starting at $175. The all-in pricing approach included taxes and fees in the listed ticket price. Gone were the days of ten- or twenty-dollar tickets to see your favorite bands. However, you can’t really blame the bands for charging high prices for tickets, because the public no longer buys music. And of course, there are probably so many hands in the soup taking a cut that who knows what’s left for the band. In my interview with Ian Paice of Deep Purple, the legendary drummer told me, “In the old days, we used to tour to support an album, now we release an album to support the tour.”

The initial artist presale was handled through Eagles.com, powered by Seated, beginning Tuesday, June 18 at 10 a.m. PT. Live Nation followed with another presale on Thursday, June 20. Vibee served as the hotel and experience package partner for the residency, offering packages that included a two-night stay at The Venetian Resort, the only resort connected to Sphere. Those packages also offered priority entry to Sphere, commemorative keepsakes, and access to a fan experience. Limited VIP packages included premium seats, exclusive merchandise, parking, and more.

The Residency Quickly Grew Beyond Eight Shows

The original eight-show schedule did not remain at eight for long. By the time tickets went on sale on June 21, 2024, four additional concerts had already been added for November, expanding the run to twelve shows. On June 26, four December concerts were added, bringing the residency to sixteen shows before the Eagles had even played their first night at Sphere.

The residency officially began on September 20, 2024. The Eagles opened the first concert with “Hotel California,” immediately using Sphere’s massive visual environment to turn one of their most famous songs into an immersive production. The touring lineup featured Don Henley, Joe Walsh, Timothy B. Schmit, Vince Gill, and Deacon Frey. The opening performance ran for roughly two hours and moved through songs from across the Eagles catalog as well as material associated with Henley and Walsh.

It was an interesting match between a band that had traditionally relied more on musicianship, songwriting, and vocal harmonies than elaborate stage production and a venue designed around enormous visuals and cutting-edge technology. The Eagles used the room without allowing the technology to overwhelm the music, and the success of those early shows helped turn what had started as a short engagement into a much longer Las Vegas run.

From Eight Shows To A Record-Setting Sphere Residency

The extensions continued throughout 2024, 2025, and 2026. By April 2025, the Eagles had announced forty-four Sphere shows running through November of that year. Additional dates pushed the residency into 2026, and the Eagles eventually became the longest-running residency in the venue’s history.

By August 2026, four more concerts had been announced for January 15, January 16, January 22, and January 23, 2027. Those additions brought the complete Sphere residency schedule to seventy-two performances. What began in June 2024 as an announcement for eight concerts over four weekends had evolved into a residency stretching across more than two years.

I have only been to Vegas once in my life, as Vegas is pretty far from New York City. However, I had the time of my life and would highly recommend a trip to Sin City for anyone. I just wish they still had those $4.99 steak and lobster meals like they used to.
