Disney+ just announced that the feature film Bono & The Edge: A Sort of Homecoming, with Dave Letterman will premiere on Disney+ television on March 17, 2023. The film will feature the legendary late-night talk show host and personality Dave Letterman making his first visit to the city of Dublin, Ireland. While visiting the popular city in Ireland, Dave Letterman met with U2’s Bono & The Edge who shared their hometown experiences and so much more while being captured on film by Morgan Neville. This exciting feature-length music docu-special was announced today by Disney Branded Television President Ayo Davis.

The feature-length music docu-special will also feature a concert performance by the U2 musicians being heralded as a concert performance unlike the musicians had ever done before. The band’s proud Irish roots ring loud and clear as the film is premiering on St Patrick’s Day March 17th, 2023.

St Patrick’s Day 2023 will be a very special day for the band U2 and their fans as the group is also releasing their brand new album entitled Songs Of Surrender. The band’s new album is a collection of 40 of their catalog songs being re-recorded and reimagined, according to the band. The number forty represents the band’s forty-plus years as one of the most successful and important rock bands of all time. The band has stated that all forty songs will be brand new recordings of their classics, and at times will feature new lyrics, new arrangements, and more.

It’s fitting that Dave Letterman and Bono and The Edge have made a film together as their careers have followed a similar timeline. U2’s first album entitled Boy was released in 1980. That same year, Dave Letterman debuted his first television show The David Letterman Show on NBC.  While that show was canceled after only a few months, NBC brought him back with Late Night With Dave Letterman in 1982. The show would catapult Dave Letterman into becoming a household name, especially with the younger hip audience who tuned in after the Tonight Show.

As Dave Letterman would soon become one of the most popular television personalities of the 80s and beyond, U2 would also become rock legends releasing albums such as War, The Unforgettable Fire, The Joshua Tree, Achtung Baby and so many more that would stand as some of the greatest rock albums ever released. During this time period, Dave Letterman and Bono and The Edge would form a friendship that grew over the years.

Bono & The Edge: A Sort of Homecoming, with Dave Letterman was produced by Brian Grazer and Ron Howard’s Imagine Documentaries, Neville’s Tremolo Productions, and Dave Letterman’s Worldwide Pants. The premier on Disney+ follows a trend for the channel that has also premiered such musical specials as Elton John Live: Farewell From Dodger Stadium and  “Encanto at the Hollywood Bowl,” Both of these films are currently streaming on Disney+.

As well as the concert performance itself, the docu-special will focus on the extraordinary relationship between Bono and The Edge and how it has developed across 45-plus years of a close friendship and one of the most remarkable songwriting partnerships in the history of rock ‘n’ roll. The special also presents the city of Dublin through Dave Letterman as he experiences Bono and The Edge’s hometown city for the first time.

The film is not just about music. It’s about the long friendship between Bono and The Edge and all that goes with it. The film was shot on location in Dublin, Ireland as well as Los Angeles and New York. A film that features the passionate and creative voices of U2’s Bono and The Edge along with the quick wit and brilliance of Dave Letterman should make for a must-see watch.
