Foreigner Announces 50th Anniversary Vegas Shows With Orchestra

In March 2026, Foreigner marked its 50th anniversary with a special five-night orchestral residency at The Venetian Theatre in Las Vegas. The series, titled Foreigner: The Hits Orchestral – Celebrating 50 Years Live in Vegas, took place on March 6, 7, 11, 13, and 14.

The concerts paired Foreigner with a 20-piece orchestra, giving the band’s catalog a symphonic setting while preserving the power of songs such as “Juke Box Hero,” “Cold As Ice,” “Hot Blooded,” “Waiting for a Girl Like You,” and “I Want to Know What Love Is.”

Cellist and composer Dave Eggar wrote the orchestral arrangements, with Chuck Palmer conducting. Eggar’s background included work with artists such as Coldplay, Paul Simon, Amy Winehouse, and Beyoncé.

The Las Vegas shows continued a direction Foreigner had first explored in 2017, when the band performed in Lucerne, Switzerland, with the 21st Century Symphony Orchestra & Chorus. That collaboration led to additional orchestral performances, including a later sold-out appearance at the Sydney Opera House.

Founded in 1976 by British guitarist and songwriter Mick Jones, Foreigner was built around a transatlantic lineup of British and American musicians. The band’s self-titled debut album arrived in 1977 and established its blend of hard rock, melodic songwriting, and polished production through hits including “Feels Like the First Time,” “Cold As Ice,” and “Long, Long Way From Home.”

Foreigner’s commercial success continued with albums including Double Vision (1978), Head Games (1979), and 4 (1981). The latter produced enduring songs such as “Urgent,” “Waiting for a Girl Like You,” and “Juke Box Hero.”

In 1984, “I Want to Know What Love Is” became the band’s biggest international hit, reaching number one in both the United States and the United Kingdom. By the time of the 50th anniversary celebrations, Foreigner had sold more than 80 million records worldwide and had been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2024.

When the Las Vegas residency was announced in 2025, founding member Mick Jones described the orchestral presentation as a dramatic re-imagining of Foreigner’s music that still retained the spirit and drive of the original recordings. Tickets for the five-show run went on sale on April 25, 2025.

The band itself changed considerably between the original announcement and the 2026 residency. Longtime lead singer Kelly Hansen announced in May 2025 that he would leave Foreigner, and Luis Maldonado became the band’s new lead vocalist. By the time the anniversary shows opened in Las Vegas, Maldonado was fronting the group.

Original Foreigner singer Lou Gramm also joined the opening-weekend celebration. He hosted the March 6 and 7 shows and took part in special fan events connected with the residency.

The five-night Venetian run was ultimately sold out. The Venetian later described the March engagement as a sold-out orchestral run, confirming that the anniversary concerts had become one of the band’s major 2026 milestones.

The Las Vegas dates also launched a broader March 2026 orchestral tour that continued through California. Fifty years after the band’s formation, the shows offered a historical link between Foreigner’s original arena-rock sound and the orchestral arrangements the group had been developing for nearly a decade.
