Foreigner’s Best Song on Each of Their Studio Albums presents a list of songs that, of course, is subjective but also represents our favorite track from every single Foreigner studio album. We all remember hearing “Feels Like the First Time” for the first time in the spring of 1977. It seemed back then in the 1970s there was a fabulous brand new band arriving on the scene every couple of months. Some faded away after one or two albums, while others, like Foreigner, became legends.

Foreigner boasts an impressive discography featuring nine studio albums, seven live albums, twenty compilation albums, and forty-seven singles.

Formed in New York City in 1976, Foreigner was the brainchild of seasoned English musicians Mick Jones and Ian McDonald, along with American singer Lou Gramm. Since their inception, the band has released nine studio albums, with seven making it into the top thirty on the Billboard 200 chart. Their album 4 reached number one in the US, while Agent Provocateur was their only album to top the UK Albums Chart. Foreigner’s albums have collectively sold over fifty million copies globally, with nearly forty million of those sales in the United States.

Among the band’s forty-seven singles, fourteen have made it into the top twenty on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. This includes the chart-topping “I Want to Know What Love Is” and the number-two hit “Waiting for a Girl Like You,” which set a record by staying at number two for ten weeks without ever hitting number one. Four of these singles— “Hot Blooded,” “Double Vision,” “Waiting for a Girl Like You,” and “I Want to Know What Love Is”—have been certified Gold by the RIAA for selling over a million copies each. Despite their success in the US, Foreigner’s impact on the UK Singles Chart was more modest, with only “Waiting for a Girl Like You” and “I Want to Know What Love Is” reaching the top twenty. Nevertheless, these picks are not based on their chart success but rather simply the ones we always liked the most.

Foreigner – Fool For You Anyway

If we were making this list in 1977, the pick here would probably have been that first stunning single, “Feels Like the First Time.” However, I guess we can blame it on how radio has overplayed the heck out of it, causing it to lose its magic a little. So, to start out this list, we go with a longshot, which happens to be the sweet-sounding tune “Fool for You Anyway.”

Double Vision – Back Where You Belong

Double Vision stands as one of the best sophomore albums ever released by a rock and roll band. The band didn’t take too long between their debut, releasing this one a little over a year after their first album. It was filled with big hit singles like “Hot Blooded” and “Double Vision.” Still, our favorite since it was released has always been the excellent track “Back Where You Belong.”

Head Games – I’ll Get Even With You

Head Games was Foreigner’s third studio album and the first without a massive hit single like the first two albums had. However, the album rocked a little heavier than their first two and was consistent throughout the entire record. This one was a little tough to pick a favorite. It came down to “Rev on the Red Line” and our pick here, “I’ll Get Even With You.”

4 – Juke Box Hero

Foreigner’s fourth album was the band’s highest-charting release ever. The reason for that was the massive success of the hit singles “Urgent,” “Waiting for a Girl Like You,” and “Juke Box Hero.” For the first time on this list, we are going to go with one of the favorites. To us, it’s hard to deny that “Juke Box Hero” was the best song on this fabulous album.

Agent Provocateur – Stranger in My Own House

Foreigner’s fifth album was fueled by the number-one single “I Want to Know What Love Is.” The song went straight to number one and was constantly played on radio and MTV. However, this slow song wasn’t as beloved by hardcore Foreigner fans as it was by the rest of the world. Our favorite song on this album has always been the side-two heavy rocker “Stranger in My Own House.” This scorcher features Lou Gramm delivering one of his best-ever Foreigner vocals.

Inside Information – Heart Turns To Stone

1987 marked the end of the Foreigner band as we all loved it. Inside Information would be the last album to feature Lou Gramm for a while. While the band continued on, it would be without sweet Lou on the next one. The pick here on the album goes to the album opener “Heart Turns to Stone.”

Unusual Heat – Lowdown and Dirty

For this one, it was the gritty guitar playing that won us over. Unusual Heat was released in 1991. It’s the only Foreigner album to feature Johnny Edwards on lead vocals. “Lowdown and Dirty” was also released as the first single from the album.

Mr. Moonlight – Until the End of Time

And just like that, Lou Gramm was back. However, this would truly become the last Foreigner album to feature their famous lead singer. What’s more interesting is that the only original members from the band’s first album still in the band were Lou Gramm and, of course, band leader Mick Jones. The pick here is the mid-tempo song “Until the End of Time,” which showcases, once again, for the last time on a Foreigner record, the sensational vocals of Lou Gramm.

Can’t Slow Down – Too Late

Can’t Slow Down stands as the album that presents fans with the long-term replacement for Lou Gramm in lead vocalist Kelly Hansen. It would also become the only album to feature Kelly Hansen and, in fact, the last Foreigner studio album ever released. It’s hard to believe that fifteen years have passed, and even though the band is still touring, they have not released any new music. Our favorite track on the album is the rocking tune “Too Late,” which also features Jason Bonham on drums.
